Something very strange is going on in San Diego. The team that took the field wearing San Diego Chargers uniforms Sunday night, was not the same team that lost to the Miami Dolphins last week. They looked the same physically, but the team that lost to the Dolphins 17-10 was not capable of the onslaught that the team on the field unleashed against the New England Patriots. I strongly suspect cloning is involved,A Now the question is A whether it was the originals or the clones on the field of Qualcom Stadium Sunday night.A Bottom line is this is the group they should keep. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers had an incredible performance on the field going 18/27 for 306 yards and 3 touchdowns as he led his team over the Patriots 30-10 Sunday night. The Chargers were the aggressors from the opening snap, defeating their nemesis from the East Coast. They just may have gained the confidence to turn aroundA what had looked like a lost season after the loss to Miami. San Diego got on the board early as they marched down the field, before settling for a 25 yard field goal from Nate Kaeding with 10:58 remaining in the first quarter. The Chargers would score again when Rivers hitA Malcolm Floyd with a 49 yard pass for a touchdown. Kaeding kicked the ball through the uprights for the point after, and at the end of the first quarter the Chargers were ahead 10-0. New England kicker Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 47 yard field goal with 7:13 left on the clock in the second. But with just 1:07 left in the half,A Rivers connected on a 4 yard pass to Vincent Jackson. After Kaeding's kick it was San Diego 17 New England 3, as the two teams went to their locker rooms at the half. Rivers threw a one yard pass to Antonio Gates with 7:07 to go in the third, and with the point after it was now turning into a rout as the Chargers led 24-3. Kaeding kicked his second field goal of the game this time from 35 yards outA and at the end of three quarters, San Diego was ahead 27-3. Kaeding kicked his third field goal of the contest with 10:50 remaining in the game from 23 yards to make it 30-3. Patriots running back Sammy Morris got his team their only touchdown of the game as he ran for one yard over the goal line. Gostkowski kicked the extra point, and that would finish the scoring for the game. It was not a good game for Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel as he threw 22/38 for 203 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. Receiver Randy Moss who had been key in the New England victory last week over the San Francisco 49ers, was barely involved in this game. He had 3 receptions for a total ofA 26 yards in the game. The Patriots running game was also not a factor, as Kevin Faulk was the leading rusher with just 8 carries for 48 yards. With the win San Diego gets back to even at 3-3, while New England is now 3-2. TheA Chargers will be in Buffalo next week to take on the Bills. The Patriots host theA Denver Broncos for the Monday night game. A(c) Copyright 2008 thesackattack.net
