Saints, Shockey stuck in trade limbo

New Orleans's apparent deal for tight end Jeremy Shockey has hit a delay because of the Giants' demand for more than a No. 2 draft pick for the former Pro Bowler, ESPN's John Clayton reports.

The Saints have been debating offering a No. 2 pick, according to sources, but some in the organization would prefer including no more than a No. 3 pick. New Orleans officials' reluctance makes the deal, which could get done on the draft-day clock or Saturday morning before the draft, difficult to pull off.

The Giants have already conducted a physical on Shockey, which could be offered to the Saints if he can't make it to New Orleans in time to have one. Sources indicate the Saints are seriously interested in Shockey, so a deal is likely to get done.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis this week has declined to discuss players under contract with any other team, and has been evasive while meeting with reporters at the Saints' training headquarters. He has apologetically said that he did not want to tip off other teams to the Saints' draft plans.

The 28-year-old Shockey, who earned the first NFL championship of his career in January, broke his leg on Dec. 16 in a game against the Washington Redskins and did not play in the Super Bowl.

and again i'm saying this, SAINTS bound!...

Morning! Haha. And Shockey would be a great addition for the Saints (as well as get him out of OUR hair twice a year!). Make it happen. :)

mr. latinferno, i can assure you this is mearly a "glitch" at best....i heard long ago he's headed to the saints, so let it be written so let it be done, they are getting one HELLOFVA baller :) !!!!!!!

i've noticed several blogs linking shep to the saints, so maybe i'll be eating my words, interesting. sorry t hear that, i'd much rather have them prop shockey !!!

Well I won't cry if Sheppard does go to the Saints for the 40th pick (and possibly a 5th). We could package a few picks and move back into the 1st (with the Chargers@27) to snag S Kenny Philips, CB Aquib Talib or James Hardy (if we feel the Niners or Giants are going after him).

get em saints

i'd love him on the steelers baller for sure

LOL!!!!

Though it has been believed that the Saints offered only a second-round pick for Shockey, Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that the Saints have added to the offer a sixth-round pick in 2008 or a fifth-rounder in 2009.The Giants previously asked for the second-rounder and safety Roman Harper.
But the Saints and their second-round pick have also been linked to the Eagles and Lito Sheppard.
Shockey is signed through 2011. He's due to earn a base salary of $1.92 million in 2008. His salary spikes to $3.0 million in 2009, and $3.8 million in 2010.

I here saints are really pushing for him

they are, and he's goin :) !!!!

all world talent and all world mystery Shockey is...good scenario for Saints if he finally puts team above his ego...for real though, most teams would take that chance on giving him fresh start with his capabilities...excellent TE's who are animals on field scarce...good as usual topic CK

from my sister site ESPN, the trade TANKED out.........we'll see though never know!!!! they are calling the giants greedy LOL! hey don't shoot the messenger, just letting you all know........

well it looks like he isn't going anywhere for now and I for one and lovin it! With the upgrades that other teams in the NFC Beast have made on defense we are gonna need all the weapons we have.
Hopefully the rumors about him holding out were BS cuz I'm excited to have him back.

i'm glad too, i'd much rather have him on the giants. he's a great player - glad he's stayin on your team!!!

He's the best blocking TE in the League and if you haven't notice he acts hurt all the time cause he's blocking guys bigger than him and the Giants need a guy that has heart motivates the team and Eli. You ever see that dumb look on Eli well he needs a Shockey kind of attitude. Shockey has a mouth but I love it. Eli needs a TE like Shockey to get their offense going. Were young and should win another Bowl with our young D, I love it!!!!
