Aaron Curry becomes the replacement for Julian Peterson, who they traded to Detroit for DT Cory Redding. They had bigger needs elsewhere but Curry is the highest rated player in the draft by nearly everyone and a talent like that is tough to pass on. QB Mark Sanchez would have walked into a great situation by sitting behind Matt Hasselbeck and not getting pressed into service before he is ready. Curry is the safe pick and makes LB again the strength of the Seahawk defence.

Lookalikes: Mark Sanchez and Mark Consuelos

This one comes from friend and former "CortSide" broadcast partner, Stuart Millstein, who is now employed by CBS Sports. Stu dropped this gem on me right after his Jets traded up from number 17 to five to grab Mark Sanchez. It's the new Jets quarterback and Kelly Ripa's husband, Mark Consuelos.

Rams Deploy Best Smoke Screen Ever

Well with the 2009 NFL Draft only hours away the rumors of the St. Louis Rams thinking of taking USC QB Mark Sanchez seem to be coming more factual or they are spreading one of the best smoke screens in a while. Are the Rams making a huge effort to ...

Reaction: DE Brian Orapko

I admit it. When the NY Jets moved up to grab Franchise QB-designee Mark Sanchez with the fifth overall selection of the 2009 NFL Draft on Saturday, and the realization set in that there would be no tumultuous quarterback transition in Washington this offseason (or at least this weekend), I experienced a moment of vague disappointment. In fairness, it was probably due as much to the sense of “

Seattle selects Aaron Curry

Wake Forest outside linebacker Aaron Curry was called the “Can’t miss prospect of 2009″ by many. After the first three teams selecting passed on Curry, the Seahawks wasted no time in handing his name to Goodell. Seattle chose to play it safe and pass on Mark Sanchez for the former Demon Deacon who wowed scouts with [...]

Of Golden Arms and Golden Girls

There were two major stories this weekend: The NFL draft was one. The other, obviously, was the passing of Bea Arthur. (Swine Flu is a distant third. Wear a condom, pigs!) Redskins Draft Defensive End in First Round; Hell Freezes Over

Hallelujah! I was skeptical when the Redskins signed a huge contract to make a big splash to grab high-priced Free Agent Albert Haynesworth.  I just didn’t think he would be able to turn things around all by himself, and obviously our record of signing big name free agents isn’t exactly perfect. However, the Redskins finally did the sensible thing and avoided the temptation...

Thats It! First round of the 2009 NFL Draft is Over

The first round is over! Whew! What a rush. That was great. We saw six receivers get drafted in the first round this year, after not a single receiver went in the first round last year. QB Matt Stafford was the first pick and he is now the highest paid player in the NFL with more than $41 million in guaranteed money. The Jets moved up to #5 to get USC QB Mark Sanchez, prompting...
