Should the eagles have moss not assante!!!

The first day of free agency was big for the eagles, but should it have been bigger. The eagles FA could have talked to Moss the first day and tried to pull him away from NE. That was the play maker we needed and we went out and fixed a D that was already good. Dont fix something that isnt broken!! Now we go into the season with the crappy WR we had last year. Asante better be good. Asante would have been around the 2nd day of FA. or we could have gotten moss then randall gay who would be good and not cause all the probs. with lito.

Moss was never leaving NE. Plus Asante is a great addition.

I completely agree with you RHCP879, but if the option was truly available...

My intuition says Moss. Not because he is a model citizen, or my favorite player, but because the defense played well last year. When we lost games we lost four games last season by four points or less. Asante is a great addition, however, I am content with a HEALTHY Lito, and a definitive number one slot receiver would truly butter my noodles... These comments are off of emotion...

Here is the actual thoughtful approach!

I think the secret to this move hangs in confidence that Samuels will force drastic turnovers, and adequate field position. The "defense sensibly making it easier for the offense" approach, much to the acclaim of such franchises as the Baltimore Ravens.

Our wide-outs are young, and Curtis had a nice first season with us, Reggie is improving, and I am truly enthusiastic with all of our off season acquisitions, ultimately the teamwork of these individuals far outweighs the addition of one "Randy Moss."

The truth hurts sometimes AndreWaters20.
"Moss was never leaving New England."

However it doesn't hurt anyone to try and wish something into existence.

CRAPPY WR MY A$$!!!!! KEVIN CURTIS IS NOT CRAPPY, NOR IS REGGIE BROWN. NOW WE EVEN GOT DESEAN JACKSON. AndreWaters20 GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR BUTT AND REALIZE WHAT WE HAVE HEAR

Man get off this Moss thing it didnt happen and most likely wont get anyone like Boldin, or Johnson. We have what we have FA is over and Moss isnt in Eagles green. It's time to focus on what we have and make them feel welcomed.

we have a great team here. I'm surprised people are writing articles like this. I for 1 am excited.

same here rhcp879. I really think, like Big Red said, that this team can compete for a super bowl this year. it's early but it looks good so far. Anyways, I like our wideouts

Keep Lito, our D will be sick, and the offense will look a lot better from last year.

Im not saying I dont like asante im glad he is here. Im just saying randy moss would help more if you ask me.And there would of been a better chance of getting them if they talk to them the first day.

i don't see how that would increase the chances of Randy coming here. His mind was made up to stay in NE since the end of the 08 season.

What are you talking about dude? Moss coming here was not based upon whether they got Asante or not. If you remember they went after Moss even after they got Asante and Moss didn't want to leave NE. So if they didn't get Asante, they weren't getting Moss anyway. Let it go!

Moss? Mr. I take plays off, Mr. I leave my teamates before the game is over "Minnesota"! Oh yeah we should have gotten this guy on the first day rather than Samuel! I love this team "We have the veterans to lead and we have the young guys that can follow and now we have great rookies to make plays when asked! The pieces are in place but we still have some fans not supporting the team and critizing the teams moves! "I can't wait for Oct-Dec everyone including the media are going to be on the EAGLES sack! I see alot of potential on this team and hope they come together with all this stuff that the media and some fans are starting!

mr i catch 23 passes in a season..yea that guy

Andre. You're an idiot. Moss was never leaving NE. Who would after the season he had. Samuels would have never been there the second day. Our FO (obviously smarter than you) knew better than to waste time with it.

Offense wins games Defense wins championships!!!!

i believe the eagles did go hard after moss and lito injury sheppherd isn t there half the time so that is an upgrade the eagles offered moss more money than NE and he still stayed there there was NOOOOOO way he was leaving

dont fix somethin that isnt broken? we had 0 defensive touchdowns and werent we last in turnovers in the entire NFL??????????? to me that seems like the secondary was "broken" last year and we fixed it with a GREAT addition...dont think on "ifs" we did what we did...moss wasnt our guy so just be happy we have the best dback in the nfl

they should have both

they should have both

this article doesn't make much sence, and curtis is decent, but we better be able to produce some points in the effing red zone this year

Nice post. Moss was offered millions more but wants to go with the team with the better chance of winning the Super Bowl. Chances are McNabb won't finish the regular season. He's had some bad injuries in the last few years and that catches up to you. The Eagles now have three cornerbacks which will only create controversy and didn't pickup a big time free agent receiver. Asante is a good corner but his numbers were a little down last year from 2006. He had only six interceptions last year compared to ten the year before. He had only two in the final eight games of the season in which teams sometimes picked on him. He's had some big games in New England and we'll always love him for it but to have Moss is no comparison.

bold. However, coming into '07 did anyone expect the NY Giants to have a chance at winning the superbowl? Probability is still chance in football.

If they could have had Moss...he would be in Green right now.

Oh and Jason2 you're a dumbass if you don't think McNabb will finish the season. Having 3 probowl CB's is a horrible dilemma isn't it??? Your team could only be so lucky. Hope your offense is as potent this year as last...you'll need it since that defense will be easier thank a drunk coed to score on.

ya i hope they don't think merriweather and... who else do they have??? can keep anybody out of the endzone.

First off, as we witness time and time again DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!!! Therefore, the signing of Asante Samuel was definitely the better signing especially considering this is a passing league and you can never have enough quality DB's. Then they did go after Moss, and the fact that Moss even for a second considered signing with the eagles, if you recall, was a big shock because NOBODY thought he was going to sign anywhere but New England, which he ultimately did. Bottom line is our WR's are not crap like you say they are. Curtis was a 1000+ yard receiver, Brown is a solid receiver who is still young enough to right his wrongs, Avant/Baskett/Lewis are quality role players but nothing more. With the addition of DeSean Jackson in the draft they added a lot of speed and great hands to that group and I truly believe he will have a big impact this season. The biggest importance for this team was to get everyone healthy and improve the playmakers on defense, if you recall we were last in turnovers forced last year.

Moss wasnt ever going to leave NE

Only a fool would look at the eagles' FA moves, and say they should have gotten Moss. Firstly, we offered him a better, or at least longer contract, he didn't want it. Secondly, To look at asante samuels interceptions, as only 6 last year as to his 10 the year before, that don't mean a thing. To a certain point, some seasons may bring you many more opportunities. 6 Int's is still quite exceptional. Remember, there are 11 guys on the field, every one is playing a scheme. So our acquisition of samuel is to benefit the team, not himself, or his statistics. Everybody get's wrapped up in the statistics.

You spelled Asante wrong.

Perhaps it was intentional? hmmm
