McNair's national legacy is tied permanently to the Titans franchise; however, he earned for himself a legacy in Charm City also. He took the '06 team on his shoulders, won games he should not have won (with serious help from the D and also Matt Stover), led Baltimore to a franchise-best record, and then the clock struck midnight before the team had a chance to dance with destiny. He hangs 'em up after 13 years in the league, and in the eyes of many has earned for himself a bust in Canton.

  • Was always a fan of his even though it seems his body took a beating there late in the game. So long, Steve.
  • Wow, I didn't see him retiring this year. He was great QB to watch.
  • Weird. I read somewhere recently that he had some juice left.
  • It surprised me too. But I guess you just never know when a guy has had enough, ya know?

  • Warren Moon is the only quarterback i can picture in a Oilers uniform.

    nice find!

  • I'm glad someone took the respectful angle (unlike us).

    Nice job Dewey.
  • Thanks. Steve had a great career, but in Baltimore he was mostly below average, occasionally clutch, and I'm glad that a new era has arrived. Hopefully it will be Troy Smith (and not Matt Ryan). Regardless, McNair was fun to watch over the years. It seems like just yesterday he was getting drafted out of Alcorn State. Definitely one of the toughest players of his generation. Just a beast when it came to overcoming nagging injuries and staying on the field.
  • Definitely a huge fan. I would've bought a jersey when he came to B-More if I could've afforded it.
  • I can't buy another Ravens jersey until Ray retires. I've tried but I just can't do it. It's all about Ray Ray.

Damn You ESPN and Your Ridiculous McNair Teasers!

...Last night, the tease in question made reference to Steve McNair's retirement and then - hold, hold - one of those leading "is he a Hall of Famer" throw-ins that made me roll my eyes and curse ESPN. Oh yes, and also claim "are-you-f-in-kidding-me." Of course, they had me at Hall. They had me at Hall...

Goodbye Steve McNair, you will be missed

The Ravens will QB hunting again this draft day, Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that Steve McNair will retire. As a person who watched him every Sunday during his Titans career I can honestly say the man always showed up on Sundays. He might not practice the entire week because he was hurt but come Sunday, you could always count on him. He truly became a QB, he was...

LAS - Life After Steve

More On The Upshaw Upheaval

Gene Upshaw is trying to get some retired players who are known to support the current NFLPA Executive Director back into the union to support him as reports about disunity continue to surface. Finishing Steve McNair's retirement thoughts

Steve McNair announced his retirement from the NFL today, and while we continue to be in absolute awe over the fact that he had three years remaining on his contract with the Ravens, we felt obliged to complete the thoughts he shared during his press conference announcing his decision (Hernia sentiment in bold). C-Mac Released

The Ravens cut Chris McAlister today ending his 10 year run in Baltimore. C-Mac was the number 10 pick in the 1999 draft by the Ravens. He made the Pro Bowl in 2003, 2004 and 2006. He was a 2 time All Pro in 2003 and 2004. When he was at his best Chris was a tough physical lock down corner. C-Mac was one of the few remaining Ravens left from the 2000 Super Bowl Championship team...

Game Review: Rams at Ravens

Webster's Dictionary defines the word "domination" as "control or power over another or others and the exercise of such control or power." The Baltimore Ravens redefined the word as "defense." That defense harassed Rams quarterback Gus Frerotte all game long, en route to recording five quarterback hits, 12 hurries, five knockdowns, four sacks...

The Offseason: Special Teams

So, I?m going right to special teams because I want to keep the big prime positions for the Ravens until closer to the draft and free agency. At kicker, the Ravens look solid. ?Matt Stover has an expiring contract, but is expected to play at least one more year, and Steve Hauschka already has ...

The Great Divide

There is an unwritten rule among those in the sports media that is universally accepted from Syracuse to San Francisco, Biloxi to Baltimore. A code of conduct that has not only dictated the coverage of both collegiate and professional athletics, but one that has managed to create a gaping hole in ideology between the two main constituencies of sport. The mandate, which has spawned...
