I spoke to a source close to the situation who told me that Asante Samuel is in. It's done. Per the source, the cornerback and the Eagles have worked out a deal. Samuel is definitely one of the big-time names in free agency this year, and the Eagles were obviously intent on signing him even though this constitutes tampering. That said, everyone in the NFL tampers. It's a fact. You see free agency start at 12:01 a.m. one day, and they have major deals done by 12:05 a.m. These things just don't happen that quickly.



If the Eagles do indeed land Samuel, you can start the clock ticking on Lito Sheppard's tenure as a Philadelphia Eagle. It's been reported that he isn't happy with his contract, and if he thinks he hates it now, wait until he sees what Mr. Samuel will make "

Guys Chill out this is was happening Asante will be visiting at noon today at NovaCare Complex then he will talk bout the Agreements with d coaches at 2 or 3 p.m on Feb 29th,2008 then at 4:30 pm he will have his PRESS CONFERENCE in front of Everyone to say either if he is satisfied or dissatified. UNO!!!!!!!!!!! they blow dude seriously if they get asante thats a waste of a career in that sorry excuse for a defense....we can still try to sign gibril madieu williams maybe??? drayton florence is another to look at for nickel, he can play the 2 cornerback average...him as a nickel would be nice and if lito goes down again he can step in and be a solid 2 corner

haha i wont believe it untill i see it on NFL.com or the eagles site...i think this is a major move for the birds. if this is the case, we def need to go for a major DE next. before a receiver a guy like asante is much better when he is playing on a team with a good pass rush who can pressure QB's to throw the ball away....he is not that physical of a CB he is more of a play maker when given the opportunities.

We won't trade Lito Sheppard! His trade value is minimal because of his durability. If we sign Asante Samuel, Sheldon Brown will be moved to Strong safety and Nickel COrner so if Lito does get hurt we will have great depth.

Ok, where did you get the idea that his trade value is minimal?
I don't see the eagles keeping sheppard if he asking for a raise, The draft is deep at CB, so you probably could land some nickle CB. I don't mind having a guy like (justin king , probably will be available in the second rd due to tough jr season) shut down corner as my third or fourth corner. He had a bad year because penn st. pass rush wasn't good this year. The kid got the tool to be a shut down CB. The eagles make this signing to give them chip(lito) to trading up in the draft for one those TOP DE or Trading for The BIG time WR.

i dont think that at alll....i think if we sign samuel that lito will play nickel so it wont wear and tear his body so he will be fresh on the field all the time....gibril wilson is a consideration at safety i dont know if we will get both him and samuel but if we do our secondary might be best in the league....then just worry about gettin a WR and we will be superbowl bound

Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel will visit the Eagles on Friday.

On Thursday night, it was reported that Samuel already has a deal in place with the Eagles.

no you didnt hear that lito and our 19th pick for the pats 7th because Samuel is a FREE AGENT you moron, we are not trading for him... if we are even pursuing him at all is still yet to be seen. Matt ...where is TRADE for Samuel ??? you speak of ?? You are saying if the Eagles sign a CB ...there is something that says they can't make a trade to move-up in the NFL Draft ??? the talk on the radio was the NFL draft,and it was brought-up that IF Samuel SIGNs here as a F.A. ...AND the Eagles trade Lito,AND the PATS are looking for a CB, that they MAY be willing to trade the 7th pick to the Eagles for the 19th pick AND LITO. the word :SMAUEL" NEVER appears in it,where does it say anything about the EAGLES TRADING for Samuel ???? but yeah .... right now nobody is reporting anything set-in-stone with wet ink on papers .....just what the media is reporting about the situation. the links are there to the threads ,,,, so what's SO hard to beleive ??

OK ... no problem.

After looking at though .... I can see the confusion myself.

This was from last night, after the Samuel report .... there was discussion on what happens to Lito.
610 WIP was talking about moving up into the draft ... and said since there was pre-mature rumor of the Pats liking Lito to fill thrie needs .... that maybe there was discussion between the Eagles and Pats on a possible trade.

Okay you guys figure if we give him a deal worth 10 million a yr. To be honest aint a heck of alot i dont know if the eagles will lower that amount or even sign the guy i sure hope they do.. But 10 million a yr it doesnt always end up being that amount every yr. Especially if his yrs as an Eagles are in Odds( like 5 yr 7 yr 3yr) type of deals where some yrs. he has to get paid more and some less... The Eagles are in some aspects smart on why and what and how they are going to work it out....
And Joe Banner said there where alot of trade talks between teams i wouldnt doubt the majority where with the Eagles...
smart thinking............ Trades may be there next route in Free agency lets see

They're saying that the rumors are if the Samuel deal is indeed done that we'd trade Lito and the 19th for their 7th...nothing involving Samuel in the actual TRADE....and the thing is...that's a rumor that COULD happen IF we sign Samuel...a lot of ifs and rumors if you ask me...

I Mean like 7 yr 45 million type deal just n example of what i mean which if you divide equally is about 6.4 million a yr.. so u see it aint 10 million a yr but its darn close to something he will like and we need not forget signing bonuses playoffs nfc championships n superbowl if we make it that far all pay different than the regular season.... it all plays into effect
