By etching the number 21 into his eye black last weekend, Steelers safety Ryan Clark saw it as a way to honor his former fallen teammate Sean Taylor. But the NFL saw it as a way to collect an easy $5,000 in league fines.

NFL went a little too far on this one. Geeze!!! $5,000 spending money for Goodell.

This is a really pathetic move by the NFL. I felt this coming on because the NFL has been making more and more outrageous moves lately.

Goodell just wants to feel important by fining players an excessive amount of money.. i mean Ryan Clark in NO way is mocking Sean Taylor, but paying respect.Roger Goodell needs to pull out whatever is shoved up his butt lol.

really, i understand the fine if he didnt explain it ya know...but thats just ridiculous
  • sportzfanatic
That's crazy. It's a tribute, just like everyone wearing GU on their uniforms and helmets all season long, and a player cannot pay tribute to a close friend, because Goodell didn't approve it. It's crazy, and Ryan Clark should be commended for taking action to remember his fallen friend, especially one who played in the NFL.

The NFL makes me SICK somtimes...a guy is trying to pay honor and tribute to his old fallen teamate and he is getting fined. It makes no sense at all. The NFL is trying to take all the fun out of the game.

All the Pitt players have their home area code written on their eye black and it causes no problems/distractions or anything like that. If anything, it creates some healthy competition and team unity.

I Love football, but this is where the NFL pisses me off. Goodell should be horse whipped.
  • GETusJUST1
There should be some unspoken exceptions, and honoring a fallen member of the NFL, especially one who died so tragically, should be one of them. Goodell takes himself toooo seriously.
  • mcbrink26
Goodell needs to be stoot slapped. The guy hands out fines like parking tickets.

No Fun League strikes again, this has to be the Most Stupidiest reason to fine someone Roger Goodell is a Cornball Commissioner and why does most of the fines seemed to be aimed at the Pittsburgh Steelers, they're like Rasheed Wallace of Football any little thing a player does is an automatic fine..Nice Move Goodell,Real Nice?
  • beery_pbr
dumbest fine I have ever heard of....just dumb
  • joyner56fan
THATS JUST STUPID,NOTHING WRONG AT ALL WITH WHAT HE DID....GOODELL IS A TOTAL JOKE AND NEEDS TO STEP DOWN FROM HIS POSITION RIGHT NOW !!

Peyton Manning got the same treatment when he wore high-tops after Johnny U ate it. Players also get fined when they give a football to a fan after a touchdown. Nice work, NFL.
  • holy f***, i spend max $ to watch NFL, sunday tick, big screen 2 dishes, And Sean Taylor , i have at least 10 items that paid the NFL in merchandising with Taylors name on them!
    F*** THEM
respect that people are allowed to be f***** people not NFL robots.
    I find it disgraceful!
  • Wow, this is non-sense. Goodell should be fined for being an a-hole! Has he even tried to defend this? I would love to see what he says. !
  • Busdriver
For all Goodell has done, this erases all of it. Cant wait to see the fans "ANTI-NFL" signs at FedEx for the Redskins Home Game on MNF!
  • As a huge S. Taylor Fan. I believe that the skins as a team should all wear the number 21 etched under their eyes. And let a statement be known... FINES BEFORE DISHONOR. Never forgotton Sean Taylor 21. And lets see just how Mr. Roger acts in the media spotlight with the whole nation watching.
  • I would like to see him fight this. The NFL administration is lacking in heart right now!
  • I love my football but this is CRAP! Glad to see I'm not the only 1 sickened by this.

As great as the NFL is, they are beginning to cross that line where athletes that play football may possibly go other routes like basketball and fans start to turn away..The league is really turning into something that not many think highly about
  • tHE RULES ARE FOR EVERYONE TO FOLLOW, NOT JUST SELECTED PLAYERS. I WOULD HAVE FINED HIM 25,000
    • SMH12289
Why are they allowed to wear Gene Upshaw decals and thats it?
      • DTRIK19
        Placard_complete_small
Well 1. he worked for the league and 2. they're allowed to wear league approved tributes on their jerseys...like the 21's they had last year
      • giantsrepeat
That's because they have double standards to suit their needs, it makes the NFL a bunch of hypocrites.
  • I am only ten and watch football. what does the GU mean on the back of the helmets? thannk you
