Steve Smith “Oops, I Did it Again”
By Slavica Milosevska
Receiver Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers punched his fellow Cornerback Ken Lucas in training camp on Friday, August 1, 2008 and was sent home. The reason of the fight was not obvious considering that there are shoving matches between players in general during training and previously the two have jawed before.
Neither Smith and Lucas attended the latter training session later in the evening. Lucas was seen holding an icepack to his face, but there was no information given by the Panthers about the magnitude of his injury.
Smith has a reputation of having a hot temper since 2002 when he punched his teammate Anthony Bright which in return filed a lawsuit that ended up being settled out of court. Additionally, Smith went to anger management. This time around, teammate receiver Muhsin Mohammad says he was regretful and trying to apologize.
With the CBA in play, Smith may not be compensated for up to four games, and this could be detrimental to the team. The management wants to deal with the situation privately.

It’s hard to be positive at this moment. It’s hard to think about the future with the Eagles celebrating in the Meadowlands. However, I sat in my house, watched Steve Smith fumble the ball, and slightly smiled. There are days when the fates align a certain way. This day, the fates were ...
