TEAMS: Colorado Rockies, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets
This morning while reporting about the Jason Marquis to the Rockies trade, I unwittingly had the Rockies trading Luis Castillo to the Cubs to get him.
I'd love to say I committed the error in my rush to quickly write the blog and post it, but oddly enough I took my sweet ass time writing it, and I even proofread before I hit the little red button that says publish.
The way I see it, there are only three possibilities as to what must have happened.
1. It's New Years Eve, and because I love our readers so much I wanted to set up a sobriety check point at Mets Merized Online to make sure nobody was surfing under the influence. You all passed by the way. A word of warning to all of you... If you're going to drink tonight, make sure you give your keyboard to your designated surfer.
2. I watched the original Ten Commandments the other night on Turner Classic Movies. You know, the one with Charlton Heston as Moses and Yul Brynner as Ramses. Well throughout the movie, the Pharao...

Decision time approaches for Castillo
Luis Castillo is expected to make his first start at NYSEG Stadium for the Binghamton Mets tonight. Castillo is 1-for-8 in three starts with the B-Mets and 2-for-28 in 11 rehab games between GCL, St. Lucie and the Binghamton Mets. Let me do the math for you: that's .071.
Castillo re-signs with the Mets
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, citing 'major-league sources,' the Mets and 2B Luis Castillo are close to agreeing to a four-year, $25 million contract.
The Astros, Nationals, and Cubs all had expressed interest in Castillo, whom the Mets acquired from the Twins at the non-waiver deadline for two minor leaguers.
Four years might be considered a risky move...
Mets can't find a taker for Castillo...
Despite the rhetoric that Omar is comfortable with Luis Castillo returning as the starting 2B especially after his plead for a chance at redemption, Ken Rosenthal believes Omar is desperately looking for a new home for the embattled 2B.The Mets can't even swap bad contracts for Castillo; Last ...

Castillo leading off...
Not only might we be stuck with Luis Castillo but Jerry Manuel suggested that he may use him as the lead-off hitter to get the beleaguered player going. I still think the team will explore every alternative to move him and if they can't, they will sign someone who they can plug immediately into ...
Opinion: Luis Castillo Will Be Traded
This morning, on his blog at ESPN.com, Buster Olney writes,
The Mets also have quietly continued to gauge the market for Luis Castillo, and if they find a taker for at least some of his salary, that would leave them in position to pursue Orlando Hudson, who also is being courted by the Washington Nationals.
This is about the fourth or fifth time I've read a rumor like this...
DeRosa Traded for Three Prospects
The Cubs continued their payroll cutting ways this off-season, dealing Mark DeRosa to the Indians for three pitching prospects. Combined, the three prospects play something like eight less positions than DeRosa.I
know nothing about these pitching prospects, but you have to think the
goal of the trade is to clear some room to spend some money and hope
that these guys can contribute...

Mets Non Tender Reyes, Burgos
The Mets have non-tendered reliever Ambiorix Burgos and second baseman, Argenis Reyes.
I expected the Mets to part company with Burgos, especially after the hit and run car accident in the Dominican Republic that left two women dead. Burgos is expected to get major jail time when the authorities are done with him.
Non-tendering Argenis Reyes, actually came as a big surprise to me...
Reyes Batting Third Makes Sense
As seen on NY Mets GlobalJoseph Del Grippo of Bleacher Report had an interesting article yesterday about why Jose Reyes is best suited to bat third. Among his biggest reasons were the facts that Luis Castillo has a better obp than Jose, he has led the team in hits each of the last three years, ...
Getting rid of Castillo in the offseason??
The Mets are likely to take a huge financial hit this winter if they are able to trade Luis Castillo and his $25-million contract. But it's becoming more apparent that these two sides are heading for a divorce when this season is over, and the latest example came Tuesday when manager Jerry Manuel opted to start rookie Argenis Reyes over the three-time All-Star.
Castillo was...

This morning at 8:05 AM, Omar Minaya was a guest of Boomer and Carton on WFAN.
Carton asked Omar to address the fans' desire for Manny Ramirez.
I've been pretty clear this year that we would set out to improve our bullpen and our starting pitching. I feel very good about where we are right now. We're ready to go with this team. I did speak to Scott Boras after the Oliver...
Mets Spring Training Update
Spring Training has been going on for about a week now, and already there are some noteworthy news items? Luis Castillo and Marlon Anderson both appear to have lost a significant amount of weight (17 pounds each). Tim Redding is behind in his rehabilitation from his November foot surgery and no longer appears to be the favorite to win the fifth spot in the rotation. John...
