With his impending retirement Curtis Martin should be celebrated for many reasons.
He's the 4th all-time leading rusher and a five-time pro bowler. He is without a doubt one of the best Jets players in the franchise's history. A gifted running back, he is one of the most unselfish players you will ever see. He never held out, never complained about playing time and even in the end, took less money to free up salary cap room. He was always gracious with the press, the fans and anyone who came into contact with him, while in uniform or not.
And better yet, Curtis Martin should be applauded for what he didn't do off the field. In other words, he was never arrested ~ all while spending most of his career in one of the easiest cities to find trouble, and where often, temptation finds you.
We are amid one of the worst years in NFL history in terms of players getting into trouble with the law. We've had one player suspended for the season (PacMan Jones), another player told not to come to training camp until a federal investigation is completed (Michael Vick) and a team with more players on the roster with police records than it had wins last year (Bengals). And a smattering of other legal issues throughout the league popping up left and right.
