The Eagles Should Pounce On Jared Allen

Jay Glazer is reporting that the Chiefs are actively shopping Jared Allen, and his days in Kansas City are numbered. He has a meeting with the Minnesota Vikings already set up, and Tampa Bay after them. The Jaguars have also shown some interest, and the Eagles should be>>

Interesting twist on this story...why is everybody else reporting that Allen is visiting teams on his on free will and that KC has indicated nothing about wanting to trade him? It would take a lot for somebody to sign him considering they'd have to give up their 1st round pick and then sign Allen to a lucrative deal. He'll most likely be in KC next season.

Why did I figure someone would make an Eagles article out of this?

Well you should know TC...every time somebodys available (in some cases even when they aren't available) people on here thinks it only makes sense for them to wear green. Forget that there are 31 other teams out there they might want to play for.

why cant you stop b!tching tc

settle down man, its just a joke

Bad bailey, Bad!! Don't make me get the rolled up newspaper, or the spray bottle.

why all the hate on Eagles fans bra? we're intense about our teams, especially the Birds, and we will pounce on any oppertunity we have about anything regarding something remotely close to what will better our teams. we are among the most passionate sports fans in America, because no one can compete with the likes of Europeans during the World Cup, but we love our teams. keep that in mind before you say "another Eagles story" again

Hes not hating, he's speaking the truth. It gets old after awhile. I'm just as passionate and intense about my Birds...but why waste time thinking of what could be? I'd much rather talk about the players we DO have and the players we might actually acquire (the draft.) If we're so fortunate to land a star player...THEN we can talk about him and what he'd do for our team. If there is an actual rumor or an actual visit from the player then thats a different story. Allen isn't really an option for anybody unless they want to give up their first round pick and then open their wallets wide to sign him, I don't see KC removing the tag any time soon.

people need to stop all the "eagles are getting this guys" and "eagles are going to trade for this guy", half of the posts are bullsh!t, yeah I am sick of the post, but some of them have some truth, If I dont agree with them I dont comment, no sh!t its about the eagles, there are a ton of Birds fans on the site.

if you don't agree with them don't comment? Isn't voicing your opinions pro or con what this sites all about? duh

I understand what you mean, but I never said they are gonna get Allen, I was just making the point that they should go after him. He could fix the defense immediately.

Our defense needs fixing? Gee I figured we were pretty well set there...just need some depth. Besides, I don't think Allen is worth the money he will command...he had one good year.

Did you watch the Eagles last year? The defense was 32nd in the NFL in turnovers, and 32nd in the NFL in total turnovers. The defense was not good enough. They had a huge void left defensive end, and Jared Allen could be the solution. He would improve the defense against the run, the pass, and create turnovers by forcing fumbles and pressure INTs. The defense needs to be better and Allen can fix it.

and we addressed that already with the acquisitions of Samuel and Clemons. Remember the last time we signed a rather young and talented defensive end? He never lived up to the hype did he? Well Allen could very easily be the next Kearse...he had ONE breakout year. 7.5, 9, and 11 sacks is not worth 7-10 mill/year. We can get just as much production from guys like Clemons, Cole, Parker, and hopefully AbirimirI and they're a heck of a lot cheaper. Saving money for the same production would allow us to reward Westbrook and to potentially pay another playmaker.

First off 9 sacks is good, and 11 sacks is very good. So he has had 3 good sack totals out of four seasons. Even the one season where he only got 7.5 sacks, he still forced 3 fumbles, and defended 10 passes, and even got an interception. Ask any KC fan, and they will tell you he is the real deal. The guy even caught two touchdowns last year as a tight end. He is a GREAT player who is 20 times better than anything the Eagles currently have at LDE. When you have a chance to acquire a game changing player you have to at least try to make it happen.

Look at the guys you mentioned. They all have major knocks on them.

I like the Clemons pickup, but he is a situational pass rusher only. A 245 lb DE is not going to lineup on first or 2nd down(unless it is 2nd and 20). Juqua Thomas is similar to Clemons. He is an undersized end who wore down as the season went along. He is clearly not starting material, and is at his best with limited snaps.

VA has the size to play the run, but nobody can say if he will be good or bad pass rusher. He didn't do much of anything in that department last year until week 17 when he had a few QB hurries. He is a major question mark right now, and there is no logical reason to think he is the answer.

Jared Allen is a PREMIER player.

make sure you and i revisit Allen's career in a few years...he has a lot to prove. We'll see how consistent he can be.

the Chiefs can't pay him to a long-term deal so that is why they are looking around to see what they can get for him.

Soccer???You're on here referenceing soccer?!

Soccers the next big thing in Philly...just wait til we get our MLS team haha

not really.

hmmm might have been some sarcasm there Einstein

sorry fellow birds fans its not happening....... jared allen isnt Big Red's type if guy because of the field issues

You think maybe Andy would be more open to somebody with substance abuse problems after dealing with it at home? I would write something clause in his contract that speficicly talks about drunk driving, and then hire him a 24 hour limo driver!

It would make sense for the Vikings to go after him. Their pass rush is HORRIBLE.

Bottom Line trade LITO, Darren Howard, and 6th for Jared Allen

and pay him 7-10 million a year? No thanks, hes not worth it, he had a fluke year.

He has 43 sacks, 13 forced fumbles, 227 tackles, and 25 passes defended in his 4 years in the NFL. There is nothing fluky about Jared Allen. He is a top 5 defensive end in the NFL.

ditto !! Jared is a stud on the field and people LOVE him in KC. If he styed in kc he could be the next Derrick Thomas. He is very charismatic.

Unfortunately KING CARL PETERSON ego is getting in the way of resigning Jared.

He had one breakout year with 15.5 sacks...other than that his highest was 11. His other 2 seasons were 9 and 7.5. So which guy would we get? He was a top 5 DE LAST YEAR, but who knows what guy you'll get next season or the season after that. Fact of the matter is he hasn't shown he can do it on a consistant basis.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/features/scouting?position=31

Throw this past season out and look at his scouting report. Guess we'll have to revisit this talk after this season. He struggles to shed blocks and that won't get any easier when they give more attention his way.

Like they said, not one good year. He's had 3 really good years and 1 amazing year. Definitely not a fluke, but a young stud.

he is also great in the community, whatever team gets him will have a leader also

2 DUI's is great in the community? Oh well, at least he owns the bar now so he can just spend the night if he so chooses!

No, I don't think the Birds should trade for Allen. Now don't get me wrong I think Allen is one of the Best defensive ends in the sport. But the price tag for Jared Allen is way too high. First they'd have to trade away their first born to get him. Then sign him to a new deal that would ask for at least ten million per. For as much talent as "69" has. I think Allen and his Club 69 will be better off in Minnesota. Which is where he will end up anyway.
