The Eagles recently hosted Jets DT Dewayne Robertson

PHILADELPHIA â€" With the NFL Draft around the corner, Eagles coach Andy Reid is still seeking options to continue building his team.

Jets defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson, a No. 4 overall pick in 2003, visited the NovaCare Complex recently to meet with the Eagles and take a physical, according to two league sources.

The Eagles can't comment on Robertson, who is still property of the Jets but became trade bait when New York switched to a 3-4 defensive alignment this off-season and signed Kris Jenkins to play nose tackle.

Robertson, listed by the Jets' Web site as 6-foot-1, 317 pounds, was also in conversations with at least four other teams, said one source, who couldn't confirm if the Eagles had made an offer to the Jets. The Eagles have 11 picks in the draft, which starts next Saturday, and could pick up more if they deal cornerback Lito Sheppard. The Denver Broncos are also reportedly seeking the sixth-year Jet's services.

It's unknown how Robertson would feel about competing for a starting job in Philadelphia. The Eagles already have two young first-round picks at defensive tackle in fourth-year left tackle Mike Patterson and third-year right tackle Brodrick Bunkley. A source also said Robertson's contract would have to be restructured.

Robertson, who signed a seven-year, $54 million rookie contract, is slated to make $6.8 million in 2008, with a $3 million roster bonus due in June and is reportedly costing the Jets $12 million against the cap.

In 2003, Robertson became the first Jets rookie defensive lineman to start every game since Marty Lyons in 1970. He has started 60 regular-season games and three playoff games. The former University of Kentucky standout has 14.5 career sacks and has never made a Pro Bowl.

I would take him for a 2nd day pick....

Yeah but that's too much money for a backup, and I doubt he would restructure it to play here. Who knows though...

yeah....He would have to
drop that salary and prove it first....

umm are we thinking 3-4 here? cuz we definitely don't have the LBs to do that and this guy is too fat to be a DT in our system

gocong and clemons on the outside and bradley and gaither in the middle... whats wrong with that?

we do have the LB's to play a 3-4 but not as our base defense, it would have to be a special situation type thing. and this guy is being traded because the jets switched to a 3-4 and he is better in a 4-3 scheme. He would be a run situation DT and just add depth, but he would have to restructure that contract big time which he probably won't.

absolutely right, I was referring to playing the 3-4 as a base which we don't have the players to do that right now. I read some more on Robertson, I thought he was larger than he is...his gut just looked mammouth in the pic I saw of him. Does this dude have an attitude problem or something? In his ESPN profile pic it looks like hes grillin somebody...perhaps a cheeseburger?

hey they can use one big fat guy in that system, maybe it will help finally stop the run

how about shutting up and checking stats....we did very well against the run last year...this isnt the eagles D of 04 we're talking about

they did do better last year, that is true. still room for improvement in my eyes. robertson would be much better then any of the other options at DT against the rush

wow thats a false statement. Bunkley is a beast, he is gonna be a pro bowl player. He is the best DT we have.

yeah..not a every down player....but someone to stop the run inside

Robertson needs to come to Denver

yea they're famous for signing bad Dlinemen aren't they?

If Robertson can stay healthy, he wwould be an excellent pick up cuz he is pretty good

i don't care where he goes i want them to get chad if the eagles get chad were going right to the super bowl

give them a 6th

yeah... we have 4 picks in the 6th...

id trade every pick in the draft for anquan boldin or roy williams

Not a HUGE fan of the guy. But hell, if the Jets are trying to get rid of this guy and he's still playing at a top level. Then I wouldn't mind having him rotating in that Jim Johnson defense.

Listen... The Jets are getting rid of him because they are going to a 3-4... He is a 4-3 DT. and he wouldn't be a backup. Jimmy Johnson likes to rotate our defense and keep them fresh. I guarentee he would beat out Mike Patterson. Imagine him and Bunkley in the middle. WOW! We wouldn't even need a middle linebacker. lol. Kidding. But they would clog that middle up big time. Also recent reports stated that Eagles were behind the new trade chart and they could be trying to move up to the top four.. Hmm.. What the heck are the Eagles up to? No one will ever figure out. Was the receiver thing a decoy? I say lets get Dewayne Robertson instead of drafting one. Cause we need depth and maybe the birds will try and get Chris long... Imagine our defense then!!! Or if the report is true about moving up that far... Jake long?

I think you are WAY underrating Patterson. 67 Tackles, 4 Sacks, and a fumble recovery which is 2nd of all d-lineman to Trent Cole. Some say he got cheated in Pro Bowl voting and should have been atleast an alternate. He is always a very solid DT and played very well this past year, it just goes to show you that with another good DT next to him in Bunkley it strengthens his abilities as well. Overall, I think Bunkley is the best DT. Last year was his first season and he will only get better, i think he will have a pro bowl year this next season. Robertson would be a great addition for a better rotation at DT for the Eagles, it would give them 3 starting caliber DT's to rotate, only problem is his contract.

I think Philly is trying to acquire Robertson to trade with Denver to move up to 12. Chris Williams is who the Eagles want to draft the writing is on the wall. Robertson cost too much money for them to rotate with two first rd DT. Denver has been trying to acquire Robertson for a month now. But then again the Bengals did go after him first. Just throwing it out there.

I can see why we might want him since mike patterson will be suspended the first four games or something.. due to second offense marijuana

pretty sure that patterson just basically got a slap on the wrist by the league for that whole situation since it was a 1st offense.. or did something recently happen that I'm unaware of???? He has to attend substance abuse courses and he will be randomly tested by the league is what I read a month or 2 back.. i don't know tho.. let me know if I'm misinformed...

Yea i'm pretty sure that the whole case was thrown out and nothing happened. he wasn't charged for it so technically its not an offense, he will probably have to attend substance abuse courses but if there was a suspension it would have been announced by now. they don't just wait around on this stuff, especially since his court date was like a month ago.

Hey Ried sounds great BUT....how bout working on getting a WIDE RECEIVER! I think ALL Eagles fans can agree on that........

Yea I agree that if the Eagles were to get Robertson, theyre not taking on that contract and I think an immediate trade would happen to move up in the draft. I agree that Denver or Cinci could be a possible second trade partner due to their interest in Robertson, and the Eagles can then safely grab Chris Williams with Denvers pick....Id love to have him in the rotation here in Philly, but unless this guy is willing to cut his salary in half, he wont or shouldnt be playing for the birds. We have players on our team that need taken care of before we take on a contract of that size to a situational DT when we already have two future pro bowl DT's in Patt and Bunk.....o yea and that comment about the run defense...u must have missed LAST SEASON?!? because our run defense was vastley improved from previous seasons and with Bradley coming into the scenario, and another year under Bunks belt, our run D is only gonna get better with time and added chemistry between the players.

Patterson didn't get suspended at all... Secondly, Bengals where going after robertson hard and it fell through. Do you guys think eagles could package him and lito for Chad Johnson? Do you think they would sign him just to trade him?

i dont think lito is in the equation when talking about the bengals they have two young corners that they are very high on. Robertson, 1st rd pick next year, 2 4th rd this year, 2 6th rd picks this year might do it. keep in mind we have 3 4th rd picks this year and 4 6th rd picks and we have Lito to trade or keep if we want our only glaring need is WR, OT, and S i also read the eagles maybe trying to move into the top 10 to get Albert.
