Could Jacoby Jones be the perfect embodiment of the Houston Texans?  Filled with talent and potential, Jones has yet to make meaningful impact in his three NFL seasons.  Sure, he did have  two punt return touchdowns in 2008.  But he hasn't done much else since. Similarly, the Texans have accumulated NFL caliber talent. But they have yet to take the next step and become a playoff team. The answer as to why the team, or Jones, has not taken the next step is not clear cut. Jacoby Jones, out of Lane College, is blessed with speed to accompany his 6'2" frame.  He can beat almost any defensive back in the league in terms of speed. In addition to running like a deer, Jones is quick and can leap. But, Jones has hands made of stone. In 32 career games, Jones has 20 catches. He also has seven fumbles and countless drops.  On back to back plays against the Tennessee Titans, Jones dropped one pass and scored on the next play. Even on the touchdown, th...

Attention meth-addicted Titans fans

The play that allowed the Texans to keep the ball on the Jacoby Jones bobble was not a bad call. It’s the correct call… it’s a HORRIBLE RULE (and it is a horrible, horrible rule), not a horrible call. Oh, also - the head of the NFL’s Competition Committee is your head coach, Jeff Fisher… so, it’s [...]

Johnson runs wild, but Texans rally past Titans

Matt Schaub threw for 357 yards and four touchdowns, and Kris Brown kicked a 23-yard field goal in the closing minutes to help the Houston Texans ruin the Titans’ home opener with a 34-31 victory Sunday.

Texans-Titans one-liners

The Texans fell behind by 14 points but rebounded to beat the Titans 34-31 behind superlative performances from QB Matt Schaub and WR Andre Johnson. Johnson's 10th and final catch of the game was the 500th of his career, making...

This Is Fantasy Football

In week 1 the Houston Texans offense gets dominated by the New York Jets to the point where Quarterback Matt Schaub and Wide Receiver Andre Johnson put up a miserable combined 8.50 points. Of course you didn't play the team that has Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson. Instead you play them in week 2 where Schaub and Johnson combine for a total of 62.75 points. Hoorah for fantasy football.

Fisher Says the Defensive Gameplan Not the Problem

The Nashville City Paper talked Monday about the defensive issues that the Titans had vs the Texans: Titans head coach Jeff Fisher was busy Monday trying to head off any potential questions about internal issues with the defense in the aftermath of Sunday’s 34-31 loss to the Houston Texans where the pass defense was shredded for [...]

Why I Am Worried About Steve Slaton

There was a recent article here about how we shouldn't worry about Steve Slaton because one bad game does not a sophomore slump make.  For the record, I agree with all the points put forth there.  The role of a running back, however, is more than just running the ball, and it is in these other areas, that I am concerned about the Texans back. The first of these roles...

NFL Team Reports: AFC East

The Bills brought in 14-year veteran Jon Runyan for a visit two weeks ago. Jauron downplayed that visit, but Runyan would seem to be a logical option. Although coming off offseason microfracture knee surgery, Runyan hasn't missed a start since 1997. He also has the toughness and nasty demeanor the team needs. ?Allen Wilson sportingnews.com

Houston trades blows to earn win

Don't call the Houston Texans a finesse team. Not after standing toe to toe with the Tennessee Titans and pulling out a win.
