The REAL receiver Philadelphia should go after

I think everyone should stop with the Chad Johnson talk, the Larry Fitzgerald talk, and the Roy Williams talk. None of those situations are practical. First off, is it just me, or does anyone else see that this situation is a lot like T.O.'s a couple of years back? Chad is becoming too much of a diva, and as much as I love me some Ocho Cinco, he is turning into a T.O. junior. We do not want another T.O. situation on our hands. Second, Larry Fitzgerald will be way too expensive. I think he just costs too much money, and in my opinion, hes not the best receiver in Arizona. I believe Anquan Boldin makes Larry Fitzgerald better than he really is (Larry is still a top receiver, but not as good as he seems to be). Third, as I have said many a time, the Roy Williams trade is not practical by any means. How do you expect Detroit to be dumb enough to take a receiver who is as good as Roy Williams, and give him up for an inconsistent and over paid WR in Reggie Brown, and a 4th round pick which will probably ride the practice squad all year.

Now that we have gotten that out of the way, let us get to something that is really practical. There are 2 number 1 receivers who the eagles can realistically go after: Javon Walker and......TORRY HOLT. Yes you did not hear me wrong...I said Torry Holt. First off let's get to Javon. Before he got injured, he was a great receiver, who had a great season. He put up 1382 yards and 12 TDS which is great. The year after the injury, he put up over 1000 yards and 8 tds in his first year with the Broncos. Now don't get me wrong, I know he is a huge injury risk, but we can take a shot at him because he is cheap, and we can also give him a small 1 year deal (he will be very satisfied with that because he will want to prove the league that he still has it). The only problem with him right now though is whether he will truly be effective. He had microfracture surgery on his knee, and that is no small surgery. You may be familiar with this procedure with the NBA, with players such as Jason Kidd, Amare Stoudemire, and Chris Webber. Theres a huge chance that you can end up never truly recovering from this surgery, and with a position like WR, you need your legs, and the explosion you get from them. If Javon doesn't have that, I don't really know if he will be much use to us.

Now we get to Torry Holt. Yes ladies and gents, I said Torry Holt. He is the model for consistency, posting up several 1000 yard seasons in a row (1300 in 2005, 1188 in 2006, and 1189 in 2007). With a REAL QB throwing to him, imagine what he could do. Right now he is not happy in St Louis, as has been reported by ESPN several times. Although he is not on the trading block, I am sure if the right offer was put together and sent to St Louis, Torry Holt could be an eagle without breaking the eagles' back. He is an elite receiver who runs some of the most crisp routes I have ever seen, he has the speed, and he has better hands than almost any receiver in this league. May I also remind you, he is a perfect player for us who offers great leadership in the locker room, experience in big games (having won a Super Bowl), and a player who brings a positive feel to his team (being the ideal team mate). Who cares if he is getting up there in age? Last time i checked, as long as you have all the tools a receiver should have, age doesn't matter as much, and yes he isn't THAT old. He is only 31 years old and still has plenty of time left in the tank. For any of you who are already shooting this idea, sit down and really think about it. Chad Johnson isn't going anywhere trust me. Larry Fitzgerald is just not worth it. Roy Williams won't go anywhere THIS YEAR. We need a number 1 receiver, and the only ones which seem to be move-able are Javon walker and Torry Holt (none of you may think so but trust me, even ESPN said that hes in a bad situation right now and Rams are more likely to give him up than you think). Trust me, we want Torry Holt. Don't say he is old, or losing it, because he has put up great years, year after year, with great numbers. So PLEASE Eagles Front Office, MAKE IT HAPPEN...

geve me a break torry holt?? lets not think about age please we want young guys that will contribute my many years.. i agree with javon and would like to see him in mignight green... but lets think bout berrian before an older guy

Yeah I want someone we could get more than a year out of, Holt is a good player but I doubt he's on the Eagles radar.

I love Tory, He and McNabb are friends but I don't think it'll happen. Realistically, I think it's Walker or Stallworth.

good post but Detroit is going to lose Roy Williams anyway next year in free agency so they might as well get something in return while his stock is high. They already have a number one reciever in Calvin Johnson and a great number three in Sean McDonald. So it makes perfect sence in getting a solid number two in Reggie Brown and a 4th round pick. What if Roy Williams gets hurt this year?? Sell stock at its highest potential!! But I will give it to you I like the Torry Holt idea! and yes screw Ocho Cinco!

Holt will retire a Ram. I watched Faulk interview him at the probowl and he is focused on finishing his last 2 years of his contract and moving on to a life outside the NFL.

I would like to see the Iggs bring in at least one of the following:

J. Walker (WR1)
Jerry Porter (WR1)
Bernard Berrian (Slot)
Bryant Johnson (Slot)
Andre Davis (Slot)

In the end I am just interested to see how the Iggs plan to improve our WR corp. Do they leave Brown and Curtis at 1 & 2 and bring in a better option for our slot? Do they bring in a new #1? If so, what happens to R.Brown?

I Would like to see us replace our "experimental" roster filler WR's, with a group (2 or 3) of the FA WR's listed above, keep rotating our entire WR corp during the game so opposing defenses are less able to key in on one guy, or one style of attack. JUst my thoughts . . .

walker and porter would be superb, or porter and berrian. u could get em both cheap and it'd be great for us

I will tell you right now, Torry Holt is not bad at all. He's not THAT old right now, and still has some years left at him. His performance has not plummeted at all over the last few years, and he has been consistent throughout his entire career. Don't tell me that a Torry Holt trade is not possible. ESPN even said that it is possible especially with how Torry is disgruntled right now in St Louis. I'm sure that Torry Holt will not cost as much as the other elite receivers (and yes he is an elite receiver). Javon Walker is a great answer to our problems too, but only if he can stay healthy. Also we need to be certain that he can really be fully recovered off the surgery that he had. He had microfracture surgery may i remind you. This type of surgery is very tricky and very difficult to recover from. He may not even be the same after this surgery, so we should keep our options open. As for Bernard Berrian, throw that idea out of the window cause no hes not worth it. Do we really want another number 2/3 guy in Philly? As for Stallworth, I like the guy, but hes injured too much, so we just can't rely on him unless we have a solid number 1 guy first. The only receivers worth touching are: Jerry Porter, Javon Walker (big risk but a 1 year deal is not that bad at all), and MAYBE DJ Hackett, but i dont think eagles will go after him. Please dont talk about bringing in Bryant Johnson, Andre Davis, and Bernard Berrian. Johnson never lived up to the expectations of the Cards, and couldn't excel behind 2 dominant receivers, so what makes you think he will shine with our crapshack of receivers. Andre Davis can stay in texas. We don't need Bernard Berrian either because we have Curtis. The only difference is that Curtis is a better route runner and has better hands.

Well, if he's better than Kevin Curtis, then bring him in here. I thought he was alot older than 31. But we need someone better than our best receiver (which right now is Curtis) As long as he is better than Curtis than McNabb will have TWO threats at WR. Then - with all of the attention that Curtis and Holt are getting - it should open things up for Westbrook and LJ Smith. If Holt can still play a few more years at a high level, then bring him in. Why not?

FYI, I have no special interests in Berrian, Bryant, or Andre Davis. But, I would not mind at all having the speed Berrian delivers, in the slot, or the size/speed combo that B. Johnson and A. Davis could bring to that WR position. I am interested in adding a larger reciever to our starting line up and any of these guys in the slot will give us a dynamic compliment to our current 1 & 2. But, for the record, I would love to see Porter, Walker or both in midnight Green next season.

JAVON WALKER IS COMING OFF A WEAK YEAR AND A INJURY AND YOU COULD GET HIM CHEAP.......WHEN THE FUCK DID THAT LITTLE WEASEL JOE BANNER START WRITING ON HERE!!!!!!

we dont need a slot receiver, so forget Berrian please. We have Curtis who can work the slot, and we can have Baskett or Avant work the number 4 spot (or even Deshawn Jackson), as i have lost all faith in Reggie Brown. We need to bring in a number 1 guy for sure, and another receiver to start opposite him. Holt would be a perfect number 1. He will play at a high level for a few more years for sure. As for that number 2 spot, an experimentation with a player like Javon Walker or Jerry Porter would be nice, or if we want to spend less money, we could go after Hackett as he would fill a number 2 slot quite well. Curtis could then excel in the slot and be another Wes Welker. These moves would make life so much easier for LJ, and Westbrook, as Westbrook would not have to be used as much in the passing game, and be used more in the running game (getting him more touches running the ball would be better)

I agree wit u my manz.. but u kno i wonder if the eagles organization ever thought about THIS :

3 STRAIGHT NFC CHAMPIONSHIP LOSSES.. Y? A LACK OF RECEIVERS.. WE ALL REMEMBER THE CAROLINA GAME RIGHT.. UGH.. BUT THEN THE FRONT OFFICE SIGNED TERRELL OWENS-WHICH LED TO A SUPERBOWL APPEARANCE... BUT U SEE WE WILL NEVER REACH THAT BIG STAGE AGAIN IF WE DNT SIGN 1 OR 2 BIG NAME RECIEVERS.. THAT IS THE KEY!! DONOVON MCNABB IS GETTIN OLDER & BECOMING MORE OF A POCKET QB WHICH MEANS HE GOIN 2 NEED SOME EEFECTIVE WEAPONS.. BUT I TRUST THE FRONT OFFICE 2 USE ITS HEAD THIS YR!! ( HOPEFULLY)

His legs are back EaglesAllDay...Donovan is going back to the Donovan of old...where he was both a threat in the air, and on his legs....but yes as long as we get that number 1 and number 2 receiver we need, we can move Curtis to the slot, and have the dynamic offense we should have...

I really think they are gong to go after donte stallworth. He knows the offense, mcnabb is comfortable w/ him, he had a good year with us, and didn't do too much last year to make his value skyrocket. He's a good fit for a good price bc the birds have plenty of other holes to fill. I don't think there's any shot w/ holt, a possibility w/ walker.

My Take: The eagles will not trade for a wide receiver unless they get a good deal. The only way we will see Fitzgerald, Williams, or even Chad Johnson for that matter, is if the eagles can get a really good deal. They won't give up Brown and a 4th rounder for Williams, even though I would. Fitzgeralds salary would throw the cap room off so badly its not really worth it unless he is willing to restructure his contract, which he isn't because that is what Arizona is trying to get him to do, hence the trade rumors. And they won't go after Johnson based on the fact that he will just turn into another TO, his mouth is too big and he is too much of a Diva. The Eagles will only go after free agent wide receivers. I prefer Stallworth or Berrian. Stallworth would be my first option, based on his season with the Eagles. He knows the offense, McNabb is comfortable with him, so the eagles know what they are getting, which will make them WANT him more than any other receiver. Berrian is another receiver who is a taller bigger guy who can get down field and can demand some attention from defenses. I wouldn't touch Walker with a 10 foot pole, he is too injury prone and just hasn't proved anything the past few years, granted he hasn't had a qb to throw to him either but still. I think the combination of Stallworth, Brown, and Curtis in the slot is a great group of receivers that will really help the eagles. I also would mind seeing them draft someone in the 2nd or 3rd round that can contribute his first year and grow into another good receiver. If the Eagles are going to trade for anyone, it will more than likely be a big-name, big-impact defensive end. The Eagles offense was very explosive with Stallworth while mcnabb was healthy, Garcia just couldn't get him the ball because he can't throw further than 20 yards. I'm all for bringing back stallworth.

sounds good, but the rams will not get rid of holt

yea the rams won't get rid of him easily but he is unhappy in St. louis and wants 2 go sumwhere where he can win.. if the Eagles offer the rams a good trade.. they can get him 4 sure.. ya kno... i say they offer st. louis a 1st or 2nd round pick and Darren Howard for holt..

we can get holt for less than a 1st rounder i think...they definitely need defensive health, so sending them darren howard could really work, also sean considine....also we can package in a 2nd to 4th round pick....we dont need to give up a first rounder for him trust me...cause a 2nd rounder is just as valuable pretty much for them

How come no mention anywhere of Randy Moss? UFA, no? So we loss a late -round picjk next year. The guys a stud. 1-Moss, 2-Brown (gotta admit McNabb held the ball way too long with open recievers last season, give Reggie one more year with a healthy QB), Slot-Curtis, 4/5- J.Walker/Avant. Do we have the space to get Asante Samuels and Randy Moss under our cap? If so, trade up to ~10 and grab DE Gholston, OLB Rivers (USC), or CB McKelvin. Those moves would give us the "impact" players for which we're all hoping.

are you serious? why would javon walker be a number 4 receiver? number 2, why would we touch moss when all that would happen is him turning into the moss of old...is it just me or did anyone else notice that later in the year, moss started giving up on his routes? i dont want him as an Eagle...The best receiver we can get through a trade, that wont cost too much, and is an elite receiver as well as a non-diva is Torry Holt...and for that number 2 slot, Stallworth, Jerry Porter, or Javon Walker would be fine, but i would stay away from Walker as his injuries are way too serious and very difficult to return to 100 percent from....may i remind you, the legs are one of the 2 MOST important things a receiver needs

First I have to admit I really wanted Chad or Larry to come to Philly. But that is not gonna happen. Holt would be a good pickup/ As for free agentcy Berrian,Porter,Stallworth would be great pickups. Draft can anyone say Deshaun Jackson
