Byron Leftwich signed with the Bucs today. You can't blame the guy; in Pittsburgh he was a guaranteed 2nd or 3rd stringer and in Tampa Bay he has a chance to become their starter. If Byron can beat out Luke McCown, Brian Griese, and Josh Johnson he will win the starting job and will have Kellen Winslow, Antonio Bryant, Michael Clayton, and others at his disposal. This is a chance for Leftwich to re-establish himself as a legit NFL starter. As far as the Steelers are concerned, this has to be a tad disappointing but certainly not unexpected. Big Ben plays the game in a way that lends itself to big hits and close calls with all sorts of injuries. Having a quality backup QB is a MUST for all good NFL teams and the Steelers learned that lesson last year. Remember, if Leftwich doesn't get signed last year after Batch went down, Dennis Dixon (3rd string rookie QB) would have been under center in games against the Eagles, Bengals, Texans, Browns, and Redskins.
