Bears RB Thomas Jones has been dealt to the NY Jets for sliding down in the 2nd round. Apparently the Bears are convinced that Cedric Benson is ready to be the man...but this is surprising given how important Jones was to the Bears offensive success the past two years....

As a Je's fan, all I have say is YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They didn't even have to give up a full pick to get a back as talented as Jones. All they had to do was trade down. The Jets retain their Rd. 1 pick and still have 2 picks in the second.

Rough trade for the Bears. Maybe they're looking to package their late first and this early second to move up in the first round, otherwise I don't know why you would make this trade. Not only has Cedric Benson not lived up to top 5 draft pick status, but now he's run the best RB on the team out of town. He better have a great 2007.

what was jones thinking? i know he was slightly disgruntled but the jets are terrible, no offense Todd21. they only played something like 3 teams over .500 last season and went 0-3. Not exactly a team of superiority.

They still made the playoffs without a running game period. Why wouldn't Jones want to make the move? He will now get all the carries and make more money.

The reason I am happy about the trade is that the Jets are 5-6 starters away from being a very good team. They are not the kind of team that was 1 or 2 players away. This trade allowed them to hold onto all 3 of their picks in the top 62, while adding a valuable starter at a position of need. The Jets certainly had an advantageous playoff schedule last year, but to call a playoff team terrible is pretty ridiculous. Now they can draft 3 key players, add a free agent or two, and they should be back in the playoffs next year.

I thought Jones was one of the biggest busts in recent history after his first few years in the league. He's made monumental improvements in his game. Unfortunately, his development has taken him through the majority of his prime years. He wants one crack starting job for himself on a team that appreciates him and has a chance to win. He's got it now. Good for him. The Bears blew it here.
