Linebacker Nick Barnett is expected to make his preseason debut Thursday night at Tennessee, and while he doesn't know how many snaps he will get, he admitted that he will have a hard time containing his excitement about being back on the field. "I've never tempered my excitement in the past and I'm not going to temper it now," Barnett said. "I'm going to be excited, that's the bottom line. There is nothing wrong with that. Nervousness and excitement are two different things. "Will I be nervous? Not at all. I think I'll be exited more than anything, just to be out there playing football. I'll have butterflies, but those are not nervous butterflies. Those are excitement butterflies." The anticipation is justified for a player that hasn't played in a game since last November in Minnesota when he sustained a torn ACL in his right knee in the third quarter. Aaron Rodgers, Packers, Poised to take NFC North

A lot of people will say that the NFL preseason is meaningless. Yes, win-loss records in the preseason are meaningless, but as a whole, the preseason has a lot of significance in my mind, much like spring training for baseball. Here’s why: if you’re having trouble executing in practice games, chances are you’re [...]

Packers Dominate Early, Almost Blow Game

On Friday, the Green Bay Packers continued their success in the preseason, beating the Arizona Cardinals 44-37. Unlike the first two games, won by a combined score of 48-21, this game provided considerably more scoring. There also were considerably more areas in which the team showed it needed improvement. Green Bay Packers' Fantasy Football Preview: Quarterbacks

Going into the 2009 season, the Green Bay Packers will boast one of the most high-powered offenses in the National Football League. Last season, they ranked eighth in the league in total offense as well as fifth in scoring and have only improved the offense this season. With a much-improved offensive line and some up-and-comers at the skill positions, the Packers should repeat their...

The Jaws Of Victory: Beware The 2009 Packers

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the Frozen Tundra…. Despite recent events, it is no longer worthwhile talking about a decrepit, beat up 1991 Buick Skylark when the current model of the Green Bay Packers offense is a 2005 Dodge Viper.  As hard as it is to believe, Aaron Rodgers has been lighting up teams all preseason and yet still everyone is talking about...

In practice after practice and the three exhibition games, Atari Bigby has been quiet. Very, very quiet. Anthony Smith, the Steelers castoff who has been running second-string, has made more turnover-producing plays and big hits in a typical week than Bigby has made since Aug 1.

Punter draws his strength from numbers

After learning he had won the competition against Durant Brooks for the Green Bay Packers' punter job, Jeremy Kapinos didn't exactly raise a glass and toast his success.

On chopping block

The trouble with having a surplus at one position heading into the NFL's mandated cut to 53 players is you risk releasing the wrong guy. The Packers face that dilemma at fullback, where they will have to select two from a skilled triumvirate of John Kuhn, Korey Hall and rookie Quinn Johnson.
