According to NFL Network's Adam Schefter, the New England Patriots signed defensive end Ty Warren to a five-year extension. In June, Ty Warren was seeking a new agent and obviously it worked for him and the Patriots to make this deal sooner then later. The 6 foot 5 inch, 300 pound, Warren was a first round draft pick for New England in 2003. The 13th overall pick was to earn $1.075 million in 2007 and $1.5 million in 2008 under his rookie contract. Under his new contract, Warren is due to earn over $36 million, with $18 million being guaranteed. The Boston Globe's Mike Reiss notes that both sides were willing to negotiate a deal. The Patriots wanted Warren and made the initial move to spark negotiations. Meanwhile, Warren decided he wanted to remain with the Patriots and was willing to work with the team at the negotiating table. In 2006, Warren had a pro-bowl season with a career-high 117 tackles (66 solo) finishing second overall for the Patriots. and also had a career high 7.5 sacks tied for second on the team. Warren is rewarded for 2006 and also should understand with this deal leads to higher expectations (as if Patriot nation is not already expecting another Super Bowl!) through 2011. Who said Belichick is going for one last run for the Super Bowl? This deal strengthens the Patriots commitment to keep one of the best starting defensive lines together long term. Congratulations Ty! Keep up the good work! IN BILL WE TRUST!
