Urlacher: Speaks 'I never said that I was going to quit'

Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher disputed a report that he threatened to retire if the Bears don't reward him with more guaranteed money.

``I never said that I was going to quit,'' Urlacher told the Tribune early Friday morning. ``That's just a gossip column. Reports like that is why I choose not to speak to the media.''

Urlacher, who is seeking a multi-year contract extension that would pad the nine-year, $57-million contract he signed in 2003, has not attended the Bears' on-going voluntary workouts and said he is unsure if he will attend the team's mandatory minicamp May 30-June 1 if a contract agreement is not reached. He also cited the opportunity to spend more time with his children as a reason for staying in Arizona.

He did not express plans to boycott training camp. The Bears, who sit about $16 million under the salary cap, continue to have talks with Urlacher's agents.

I was hoping this was true since we see him on Sunday night (9-28-08) but then again he is one of my favorite players to watch, so all in all im happy to see one the best LB's not considering to quit...

agreed eagle_fanatic, i'm glad too!!!

hell yea im glad this isnt true haha

wow different from this morning i can see the press takin stuff and blowin it up

Where his principles now? I thought he made it clear that if you wanted to talk to him there was only one media source to use. I for one am not surprised he sold out that principle too. Keep it up Urlacher, this is why your jersey sales have dropped from number one to number 7. Want to go for 17? 25? Speaking of jerseys, if you want yours retired someday shut the heck up and play.

heads up babygurl someone jacked this and put it on another thread do they not check the feed on here

Were Urlacher to retire, he would not have to pay back any of a $13 million signing bonus. But Urlacher, who is seeking a multiyear extension for the nine-year, $56 million deal he signed in 2003, told the Tribune he was unsure about attending minicamp and did not address whether he'd miss training camp. He also dismissed talk of a trade.
"Everybody knows I want to be in Chicago," he said, according to the Tribune. "I've said that from day one. I can't imagine playing anywhere else. I want to be with my teammates."
"They've offered me a one-year extension," Urlacher said. "My agents are doing a great job for me. I try to stay out of it as much as I can."
