For today, Brett Favre will not be a member of the Minnesota Vikings. According to a report, Favre told Vikings head coach Brad Childress that he did not want to return to football in 2009.
There isn’t much else to say, besides the fact that Favre will probably change his mind, either tomorrow, or in August.

From ESPN.com’s Ed Werder:

Rick Schwartz of Yahoo! Sports says Brett Favre has told the Minnesota Vikings he is not coming out of retirement to play in 2009. Schwartz says Favre had a phone conversation with someone connected to the team in the last day and informed them of his decision. This would certainly seem to jibe with the developments of the past day, including Bus Cook’s adamant denial of...

Let me start with this. Brett Favre may have been bent that Manny Ramirez knocked him off the front page today. So it makes sense that he made his own news by announcing that he WAS NOT returning to the NFL. Yeah, there are reports that Favre told the Vikings that he wants to stay retired and will publically state so. So, does this bring any finality to any of this? In a word: no...

In a dramatic turn of events in the last 24 hours Brett Favre has remained retired, for now. After reading my letter to him last night, and shedding a few man tears, he has realized what a mistake it would be to put on purple and give up every shred of his dignity that was left.Thank you Brett. Thank you.Oh, and you're welcome TT Nation. You're welcome.

Minnesota Vikings' head coach Brad Childress will meet with former Falcon, Packer, and Jet quarterback Brett Favre tonight to discuss the two sides' interest in Favre manning the quarterback position for the Minnesota Vikings this year. After one season in New York and a strained-bicep induced statement that he was retiring, Brett Favre found himself among the early cuts during post-season roster clearings. Convinced either that Favre's late-season tailspin or his commitment to retire reflected what was left in Favre's professional football career, the Jets released Favre without much plan for a backup...
