The site is undergoing some minor re-tooling and will have a bit of face lift for next week so because of this all my week 2 picks are coming as free plays.
Lock of the Week
1. New England Patriots vs NY Jets
After a very mediocre showing against the Bills the Patriots come into this game at only -3.5 points, one of the lowest spreads I have seen on this team in years. Yes they are not the same team as in years past and have lost depth on defense but they always find away to win. Two real keys to this are: 1) when is the last time you saw the Pat's play two bad games back-to-back? then factor in divisional opponents and average level competition as neither the Bills or Jets can be described as elite. Brady is not going to give the Jets the soft rusty performance he gave the Bills. 2) Where the Bills no-huddle kept the Pat's older D-line on the field and tired them the Jets don't have the gimmick and with a rookie QB will be facing blitz's from every direction every other down; they'll cough it up.
In short Pats win the turnover battle and Brady capitalizes
Take the Pats at -3.5 at 3 Units
then if you have the juice squeeze this game again and take the Pats -170 Money Line
2.Cincinnati Bengals vs Green Bay Packers
The Bengals mustered only a TD against a much weaker Bronco's defense and the Bengals and Carson Palmer come in against one of the better secondaries in the game. Basically it's strength on strength except for the fact Green Bay also has a terrific passing game led by Aaron Rodgers. So as long as Aaron protects the ball reasonably well they cover the -9 spread
Take the Packers -9 at 2 units
3. Minnesota Vikings vs Detroit Lions
Despite their weak showing against the Browns the Vikes have a tough D much tougher than the Saints and their pass rush combined with play makers like Antoine Winfield should keep the Lions off the board and avoid the spread scare the Saints gave many cappers in week one.
Take the Vikes -10 at 3 Units
4. St Louis Rams vs Washington Redskins
I almost recommended the Rams on this one to cover the spread at 1 unit as the Skins seem to have trouble scoring on anyone despite several weapons. their game is a possession ground control game, they control the clock and field position but it usually doesn't lead to BIG scores... and the Rams they just can't score take the under at 2 units
Upset of the Week
5. Baltimore Ravens vs San Diego Chargers
The Chargers reputation for slow starting is growing into legend after almost dropping to the Raiders who should be one of this years worst teams. They get a tough Ravens team that has three quality running backs in Ray Rice, Willis Mcgahee and Le'ron McClain and Joe Flacco will complete timely passes unlike the Raiders and the Ravens won't play a pure vanilla D all game.
Take the Raves on the Moneyline + 2 Units

Last minute thoughts before Patriots v Jets
As we look forward to week two of the 2009 season, I am excited to see how New England will play versus the Jets today.Monday night's game versus the Buffalo Bills has left more questions than answers on both sides of the ball and the one area to feel confident was the special teams play (an area of concern after losing the 2008 coach and captain) as it help the Patriots win...
Ryan’s Hopes Come True. Jets Beat Patriots 16-9
The New England Patriots in week one of the NFL season got a victory they most likely did not deserve due to the late game heroics of Patriots QB Tom Brady and his partner in crime Benjamin Watson. New England trailed the Buffalo Bills for most of the Monday night game but Brady as he [...]

FOR THE JETS AND PATS, THE HATRED RUNS DEEP by TJ Rosenthal For Football Reporters Online
FOR THE JETS AND PATS, THE HATRED RUNS DEEPby TJ Rosenthal For Football Reporters Online Rex Ryan didn't come here to kiss Bill Belicheck's rings. Respect is one thing, laying down is another. Tom Brady, after hearing Ryan's comment that the Jets will treat Sunday's game like a Super Bowl, answered "the Super Bowl..that's played in February." It'...
Game Recap: HC of the NEP Takes a Dive, 16-9
First, the bad news. No sacks, Lito Sheppard, Kris Jenkins and Donald Strickland are banged up, and the Titans, next week’s opponent, is 0-2 and desperate for a win (by the way, they lost today because they gave up 34 points to the Houston Texans—the guys who couldn’t score last week). Now, for the good news: The New York Jets had just enough offense and way too much...
The return of the War of the Mannings
The return of the War of the ManningsBy The Gambler [J.Gamble] Contributing Writer-Football Reporters Online It’s the matchup everyone wants to see. Pregame Media Notes, Patriots at Jets
This Sunday’s Patriots/Jets games in NY will be broadcast by CBS and called by the number 2 team at the network, Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf.
In a conference call earlier this week, Dierdorf commented at length on the Patriots/Jets matchup:

A pressure-packed ending
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - It didn’t matter that the Patriots’ offense hadn’t seemed right all day. When Tom Brady jogged onto the field with 1:48 remaining with one final chance to tie yesterday’s game against the Jets, all of New England was thinking the same thing: Get ready for overtime.
A Tale Of Two Seasons: Patriots-Jets Could Determine AFC East Supremacy
Fourteen years ago, the 12-0 Chicago Bears and their vaunted "46" defense marched into Miami on a Monday night in December.
Led by coordinator Buddy Ryan, they were chasing history, fueled by what was already considered one of the greatest defenses of all time. They played before I was born, but I've seen the tapes.
They were animals. They were big, mean, and fast,...
