Well at least the Bottom 5 has returned to a normal state. There was only one change in the rankings for this week as my "debuting" team North Texas rose up from the throngs of defeat to snatch a victory from Louisiana Monroe 31 to 21. You will have to read through my entire article to see which team replaced the "Mean Green", it is a minor surprise, but shouldn't really be a TOTAL SHOCK to anyone who reads this weekly piece. So without further ado, I give you the "weak" 8 bottom feeders.
Number 1 - Florida International "yellow cats" - Stretched their streak to 19 straight and cemented their ranking as number 1 with a 34 - 16 defeat at the hands of the Sun Belt conference leader Troy. Next up is fellow conference power hose Louisiana Monroe who was able to smell it up in their loss to previous number 2 North Texas. Could be an upset in the making, and if so Louisiana Monroe could be cracking this ranking.
Number 2 - Marshall "bumbling heard" - Extended their record to 0-6 on the season with a squeeker of a loss (38-31) over Tulsa. They are making Byron Leftwich and Chad Pennington proud. Next loss at home to Southern Mississippi.
Number 3 - Colorado State "lambs" - Brings the second longest losing streak to 13 with a 45-21 defeat at the hands of the Air Force Academy. Next loss on the road to UNLV, although the Rebels won't put up too much of a fight.
Number 4 - Utah State "maggies" - Had their scare this past Saturday putting up 37 points against the University of Hawaii, although they did give up 52 to the "rainbows". Makes you wonder if Hawaii is overrated after all. Next loss will be Saturday to Nevada.
Number 5 - Nebraska "quiters" - Yes you see it here a 4-3 team in the bottom 5 that has previously been reserved for winless teams. Well I decided that "tin-man" teams (no heart) need to be included also, so here they are. I have already given my opinion on what needs to be done at the top of this once proud program. Never in their history of 118 years have they allowed 4 different teams to score 40 or more points against them, let alone lose homecoming by a score of 45-14. Next loss against Texas A & M, once again at home.
Peaking in this week is Notre Dame and Louisiana Monroe. See you next week...
