Welker comments on the Asante Samuel signing and attacks the Eagles.
Comments 1-50 (of 139):
  • The Philadelphia Eagles Will Go Far This Season And I think Asante Samuel Is The Best Cornerback in The Nfl And He Signed With The Philadelphia Eagles Because He Wanted To Get Back To The Superbowl And Will Do That With The Eagles
  • I don't agree with Welker, but Champ is the best CB in the league
  • Eagles Rock
  • Champ Use To Be The Best CB In the League But He Is Old And Is maybee the number 2 or 3 best cb in the nfl ASANTE SAMUEL IS BEST CORNERBACK IN THE NFL
  • you can believe what you want, but if you had toplay one game, would you rather have Bailey or Samuel? the decision isn't that hard, you go for Bailey who will be the best CB all time by the time he's done

    here read this:

  • Champ has a shot though cuz unlike Deion, Champ actually knows how to tackle someone
  • [not displayed: comment from locked account]
  • BAILEY IS GOOD AND I GIVE HIM ALOT OF CREDIT BUT I THINK THAT IS IS GETTING UP THERE IN AGE AND ASANTE SAMUEL WILL BE THE #1 CORNERBACK NOW. BAILEY GAVE UP ALOT OF PLAYS LAST YEAR WHEN SAMUEL INTERCEPTED ALOT OF PASSES THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER
  • i wouldn't say a lot of plays, more like a few, and the only eason that happened was cuz Denver's run defense was 30th in the league and was not good at all, so Bailey and Dre had to help with the run and it was almost pass coverage second after run D....now if the D was good, Bailey would have had at least 6 picks......but being a good corner is not all about INT's ....i bet if you go look at the stats, Champ leads in pass deflections and tackles for corners
  • 1. Asante Samuel
    2.Champ Bailey
    3.Al Harris
  • wrong....

    Champ
    Cromartie
    Samuel
  • wrong....

    samuel
    cromartie
    trufant
  • Champ is definitely better than Trufant and Cromartie cuz they had what, one good season? and if you actually look at stats and all that Champ is better than Asante
  • wrong....
    Champ
    Asomugha
    Samuel
  • thats good but i think Samuel is better than Asomugha
  • My actual list would have been Champ, Samuel, Cromartie, then Asomugha but i wanted to be different.
  • sounds good
  • You're an idiot if you think Champ will be the best CB ever.

You're a retard if you think Cromartie is even close to the second best corner in the league.
  • champ used to be the number 1 cornerback but cromartie had 1 good year and that still does not make him number one. champ is not the number 1 cornerback anymore. he is good now but asante samuel is better and he is now the number 1 cornerback in the game. you will see this year with the philadelphia eagles and i say 16 interceptions for asante samuel and maybee 5 for champ and 3 for cromartie
ASANTE IS NUMBER 1 CORNERBACK IN THE NFL PERIOD
  • give me some facts that why you have Asante #1.......here are some

Asante played full time as a starter since 2003 so I'll give you the stats since that year for both players

    Champ:389 tackles--------Asante:238 tackles
    Champ:26 INT's---------Asante:22 INT's
    Champ:79 pass deflected-------Asante:79 pass deflected
    Champ:18 INT's when losing------Asante:17 INT's when losing

these show in the same amount of years that Champ has better production at corner than Asante

  • TC you gotta understand in 2003 champ was the best...and in 04 and 05....but right now it is asante samuel and antonio cromartie...things change hes just gettin old and he is still an effective player its just that he isnt the best anymore.....i know hes ur favorite player i just disagree with him being the best...and deion sanders is the best of all time champ will be up there though
  • but just tell me how he is better....Champ's stats are better, he knows how to get it done, and whats great about Champ is that he knows he's the best

here, please be honest, if Asante wasn't on the Eagles, would you consider him the the best? be honest.

and here is an article and about Champ's age

    http://www.gazette.com/sports/bailey_37540___article.html/won_birthday.html
  • id say samuel or cromartie are the best no matter what team they are on....if they keep puttin up the numbers they are i say they are the best...champ is the best in the long run because samuel and cromartie are young and still have alot to prove but champ has proved hes the best and is past his time 3 ints last season
  • Corner stats don't tell the whole picture. The tackles could be because the corner didn't cover well enough in the first place. Tackles usually mean you're getting thrown against. A big knock on the Eagles D was that the corners led them in tackles through the first 4 or so games I believe. The INTs can come from a bad pass rush up front. That being said, I still think Champ is the number one corner in the league until he has a really bad season.
  • well said 4forfour
  • He didn't have a steallar season last year. The year before,( 2006 I think) he had like 40 INTs. That's a lot.
  • yeah i would say thats a lot
  • Asante has had 26 INT's since 2003. I like eaglesrock12's prediction that he'll get 16 this year. This guy knows what he's talking about.
  • splitting hairs, different teams playing different games, asante in that period has taken his team into many big games and produced there.
  • If you knew anything you'd know most stats, like INTs, are worthless when comparing corners.
  • Al "I'm good for a pass interference penalty every game" Harris?

    #3?

    Wow.
  • [not displayed: comment from locked account]
  • Charles Woodson Better then Al Harris?
  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  • [not displayed: comment from locked account]
  • Well the Eagles are not going to win the Superbowl so I guess he is right... Atleast Welker didnt get somebody to write a dumbass rap for his thoughts!!!
  • Brian Dawkins is the best saftey in nfl history and the eagles are going to win the superbowl this year for all you haters out there. asante will always be the number one cornerback if you look at his stats. JUST WATCH THE EAGLES GO 14-2 AND MAY GO 16-0 (DO NOT BE SHOCKED) THE EAGLES WILL GO 16-0 AND WIN THE SUPERBOWL. GO EAGLES
  • if you look at the stats Champ is better....i don't know what stats you are looking at
  • Ronnie Lott

I'll send you a message when the Eagles lose a game.
  • i wouldnt go that far....ronnie lott is the best in nfl history but dawk is up there....eagles will win 10 or 11 games this year...maybe 12 its possible..but 14 or 16 no....theyll win the superbowl though!!!
  • that roy williams thing i said was a joke im a die hard eagles fan
  • I AM A DIE HARD EAGLES FAN TO AND DO YOU THINK THE EAGLES WILL GO ALL THE WAY TO THE SUPERBOWL AND WIN
  • ASANTE SAMUEL WILL HAVE 16 INTERCEPTIONS THIS YEAR OR EVEN MORE. HE IS THE BEST CORNERBACK EVER AND WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF THE EAGLES GREATS
  • I HOPE ON FRIDAY AUGUST 22ND ASANTE SAMUEL WILL LINE UP AGAINST WES WELKER AND HIT HIM AS HARD AS HE CAN SO HE CAN GET SOME PAYBACK OF WHAT HE SAID ABOUT HIM. MAYBEE EVEN GET SOME INTERCEPTIONS AGAINST HIM TO.
    GO ASANTE SAMUEL!
  • Let me go out on a limb and guess that you must be around 11 years old.
  • [not displayed: comment from locked account]
  • i wouldn't doubt it
  • wow 16 picks that is one hell of a prediction

Samuel visiting the Eagles

POSTED 12:58 a.m. EST, February 29, 2008 SAMUEL VISITING EAGLES Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel will visit the Eagles on Friday. On Thursday night, it was reported that Samuel already has a deal in place with the Eagles. Samuel is looking for at least $10 million per year.

So ... Asante Samuel

All right, so, a lot of things have to happen before the Eagles actually sign Asante Samuel, but the fact that he's in Philadelphia today makes my earlier certainty on this issue look truly, fantastically dumb. To recap:Look, I make a lot of bad predictions, but there's no way in hell the Eag...

Go Get Em! Terrell Sugggggs!!!

This off-season is going to be a very active one for us Jets fans with high draft picks and plenty of cap space. As we saw with the New York Giants run, to beat the top teams you have to get to the quarterback! I know Asante Samuel is out there and we are rumored to be interested...

(NEW) Rumors Abound About Eagles-Cardinals Making a Deal

On the same day that the Philadelphia Eagle's signed CB Asante Samuel, speculation has erupted that the Eagles could be sending their first round pick in this year's draft and CB Lito Shepherd to the Arizona Cardinals for WR Larry Fitzgerald. If the rumor has legs, than both side could be in the making for vast improvement. The Cardinals recently moved CB Antrelle Rolle...

Randy Moss to Eagles Still A Possibility

Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting some extremely interesting news regarding Randy Moss. "The Eagles are the one team I would keep an eye on if Moss doesn't go back to the Patriots," Mort reported on Saturday night. (video) And in other scary news, Mort adds that the Cowboys would be the third team he'd list with the best chance of landing Moss. Boy, could...

Checklist: Start fast? Yes

I was excited about yesterday's win. Anytime you can get out in front early and stay on top you have to be happy. I said it before, we need to start fast and finish strong and yesterday we did that. What I liked best was that we were able to stay aggressive, convert on 3rd downs, and have success in the Red Zone. We worked hard on those things as a team and it paid off. What...

GCobb.com: Eagles Closing in on Roy Williams

Here we go again. Just when we thought all the talk of the Eagles getting a top flight receiver was dead, GCobb.com has started things up again. Cobb is reporting that Mike Quick, an analyst for Eagles games, believes that there will be news on a new team for Lions receiver Roy Williams by the end of this week. Three NFC East teams are believed to be bidding on the former Pro Bowler...

Moss to Philly

POSTED 10:42 a.m. EST, March 1, 2008 SPIKES OUT IN PHILLY . . . MOSS IN? On Friday night, an eagle-eyed reader in Philly pointed out to us that the Eagles' depth chart shows Asante Samuel as the starter at left cornerback, and Lito Sheppard as the second-stringer. So we shared that info with PFT Planet, and several members of the Philly chapter pointed out that nowhere...

Raiders Will Drive Up Price on Own Player

The Raiders deal for DeAngelo Hall has hit a snag recently. The two teams have worked out the deal in terms of compensation (a second- and sixth-round pick). Now the two sides are struggling because of money. Hall wants to be paid Asante Samuel money. And you know what, so does Nnamdi Asomugha. The Ra...

Should Sheppard Be A Starter Over Brown?

The odds of Lito Sheppard receiving a new contract from the Eagles are pretty much null. He is currently a back-up cornerback?not too much leverage. If Sheppard was still a starting cornerback his chances for a new contract would still be slime, but at least he would have a hand to play. Here's a question. How is Sheldon Brown a starting cornerback on the Eagles? If you had...

EAGLES SHOWED INTEREST IN ALLEN

Though it now seems that the Minnesota Vikings are the favorites to land defensive end Jared Allen from the Chiefs, the Eagles apparently were one of the teams that at least kicked the tires regarding the possibility of acquiring the NFL's 2007 sack leader. Per Bob Grotz of DelcoTimes.com, the Eagles offered cornerback Lito Sheppard and draft picks, but not a first-rounder...

Eagles Rumors: Sheldon Brown for Anquan Boldin?

Well, this is certainly an interesting rumor. Adam Caplan of NFL Radio said today that the Eagles are showing interest in former Bills CB Jabari Greer. Considering they already have Asante Samuel, Sheldon Brown and Joselio Hansonand?several other positions of need, it's a curious rumor.?Caplan insinuates that if the Eagles signed Greer they would then be able to dangle Sheldon...

Patriots' secondary looks less than super on paper

It would be naive to think that the New England Patriots won't contend for another AFC East crown, the postseason or a Super Bowl appearance. They're still the franchise all other teams gun for and certainly should be the favorites to win Super Bowl XLII. But has anyone taken a look at the Pats' secondary this year? When cornerback Asante Samuel signed a multi...
