The Giants Should Trade Shockey?

Disturbing news for some Giant fans, per columnist Mike Florio of profootballtalk.com.

Lost amid the hype and the preparations for Super Bowl XLII is Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey. And his apparent lack of interest in what his team is trying to accomplish might be reason enough for the Giants to sever ties with him.

Shockey broke a leg late in the regular season. As recently heard, Shockey is pissed that the team has done so well without him. Some league observers believe that the sudden maturity of quarterback Eli Manning has resulted at least in part from the absence of the loud-mouthed tight end.

According to the Denver Post, the Giants have invited Shockey to attend the Super Bowl. But Shockey has yet to decide whether to accept the invitation.

Let's repeat that one. Jeremy Shockey, a member of the New York Giants football club, has not yet decided whether he'll attend the Super Bowl as a member of the team.

Of course, Shockey is slated to attend Terrell Owens' Super Bowl party on Thursday night as a "confirmed guest," along with the likes of Tony Romo and Chad Johnson and JaMarcus Russell.

If Shockey attends the T.O. party but isn't with his team for the Super Bowl, then the Giants should trade him or cut him. Sure, he's under contract through 2011. Yeah, there would be cap consequences. But we can envision no greater act of selfishness or betrayal than for a supposed member of a team to fail to provide support and respect as the organization tries to pull off one of the all-time great underdog stories in league history.

I have said from day one that, if you remove the hair, tattoos, loud mouth, and boorish attitude, Shockey is just another serviceable tight end. Boss has proven that the system benefits the player more than the player benefits the system, at least in this case.

Antonio Gates and Jason Witten are better all-around tight ends than Jeremy Shockey. They're just not loud.

You have a good point. It seems like, if anything, Shockey stymied Manning.

Agreed. Shockey gets hurt and Manning becomes all-world right after that. Send him to Miami. That will fix his ass.

As a Giants Fan, I appreciate Shockey's talent. I think we should trade him and let Eli lead this team.

Not sure Eli will ever become a true leadership type person. He's getting better though. Kind of reminds me of our boy Nowitzki on the Mavs. He'll always be a good player, but he's not good at getting his teammates involved. Shockey was just Eli's crutch for so long that when Eli lost him, he learned how to look for other options.

Here's another one , Brew. Ahhhhhhh....another star. We're all so proud of the way you follow me around. Good job.

Send Shockey back to Miami where he came from. That'll show him.

It was rumored that Shockey made comments after the Wildcard game at the Linc last year that he would love to play in Philly.I don't blame him. But seriously, bad attitude or not, I would take him over LJ Smith anyday!Send him to Philly and send LJ( slippery hands} Smith to NY! Let Eli (the leader-LOL} deal with him!!!!

Shockey over L.J.?? I would take that in a heartbeat. Philly could use a real hard-nosed TE. Not that Smith is not any good, but Shockey might whine because McNabb wouldn't throw him the ball enough. Who knows?

i think eli has made great strides without shockey, i say send him to dallas so he can fit in with those a-holes down there.

Haa. Isn't this fun? Wow. I love the way you follow me around. Doesn't he look great everyone? He's almost ready to hunt Easter eggs. He's getting good.

it's sad PPhilly, the creeps trying to sniff your boxers by following you around a web-site in the most un-cool and non-sports way...anyways, wouldn't mind seeing Shockey(a well-behaved one, if he exists) journey and link up with TB...Moss type trade with the ego to reign in, but NE needs TE's in 08' along with a good chunk of new additions as the team decline will really kick in next year...never liked L.J. as a player...the main benefit, as so obviouly pointed out here, is that Eli can finally be Eli

dude, u are freaking me out, why are u posting things about me on here??? stick to the topic man.

Keep coming, man. Don't get behind. Hurry, follow me to the next one. I'm sure everyone is waiting because everyone on this board is aware of what you are doing, especially the Yardbarker founders. Keep following. I"m going to the next one now. Come one. Don't lose me.

What's going on between you two guys? Can you take it somewhere else and not clog up our blogs?

you people are insane. I remeber Shockey from ada oklahoma. He has always had more heart than any person i know. I remeber seeing him at the weight room at ECU campus and I knew at that point that he was gonna be something big. Shock your a big reason why the giants are who they are. Keep going like you have been and i know u will go down as the best TE in NFL history. Saw the pics of u with the girls you where a pimp even back in ada when you where only 2 inches taller than me instide of 8. THIS IS CRAIG GRIFFIN you cousins and freinds jeremey workman and Craig Workman say HI>
