Who says Bernard Berrian can't be the Eagles guy at WR?

Here's an analysis on why Eagles fans should forget about trading for a WR this offseason and focus on a more likely scenario: acquiring Bernard Berrian through free agency. That's a more likely scenario as long as the Bears don't franchise him, which they haven't.

I love it and have been preaching it since game 5 of the '07 season. He is our best available option. I really expect the FO to get this done!

Possibly a good move. I feel that anyone better than Curtis would be great. He's a solid #2. And the receivers we have now could make a good supporting task. If BB even puts just "a little scare" into defenses it will be an upgrade. Hopefully it would allow our WRs to get open so McNabb has someone to throw to. But we should still draft a receiver HIGH, in this years draft.

I meant supporting "cast".

Berrian isn't better than Curtis genius. Curtis is the better player.

hey jerky, I said "possibly" because I don't know much about him. And I said "If BB puts a little scare into defenses" - also hoping he would do well and implying that I don't know much about him. And don't call me genius - you sound like an a-hole!!!

i rather draft some1 then 2 take berrian

at this point i would take any wide receiver that gives us the best chance at winning.

i deffinately think that berrian would fit into the eagles offense well

Berrian is an okay option. Not a game changer, but an okay second receiver.

Berrian could be a gamebreaker with another good receiver on the other side and a good QB that can get him the ball. Grossman and Orton were not going to be the guys to get ANYONE the ball much less Berrian. With his speed, he can get lots of catches with someone who can air it out.

I say anyone that can put up those number's with those WEAK QB'S throwing him the rock he could do some REAL DAMAGE WITH #5.

EXACTLY! His 950 yard season with Grossman/Griese could easily translate into a 1200-1300 yard season with a Pro-Bowl QB.

People can't see past there own nose sometimes ZZ. I agree 100% with you. Who on this board thought Welker was going to be so good moving up to NE. HE was a victim of the system and he dominated. Rex Grossman/Brian Griese are not the premier QB that Dmac can be. Not to mention the system here will complement him well.

This move will help. It will not put us in the Superbowl.

This move would be great. The offense would average 24 points. The defense, if they add Asante Samuel in the offseason, would be dominant. Reference: http://www.allphiladelphiasports.com/blog.php?bid=329

McNabb gets a burner who he can chuck the rock 50+ downfield for padded stats? No. 5 would take anyone... just don't let berrian be the ONLY pickup this offseason. Like Curtis last season... *yawn*

I think Berrian would be a solis pick up! I think he has the talent! Besides look at CRAP that's been throwing to over the last couple years!

Berrian could definitely stretch the field but I dont think he would put us over the top. Him or Stallworth are probably our likely candidates. I could be wrong about Berrian, he might be a great pick up. i dont know what the front office is thinking. I just hope we get some playmakers on both sides of the ball.

Id be ok with that, not excited but better than nothin

i think i could be happy if get a real chance to see him in action!! really can't judge his ability until then!!! but id be happy with someone who actually can catch the ball!!! maybe we can add him with stallworth!!! hell booker was released from miami id be happy with him !!!!!

No not Berian, we already have a bunch of # 2 wr's on this team, I'd take Stallworth back before berian. As far as Booker I havent seen enough of him to make an honest and fair statement.

He was awesome a few years ago, but he's lost a step. Now a good game for him is 4 receptions for 40 yards. Sometimes you'll see his stat line 1 reception, 11 yards. In his defense, he was on the Dolphins. You don't get many balls without a QB and an O-Line. I think he would add good veteran leadership and he's a guy you can rotate in, but I don't see him getting many snaps in Philadelphia.

The bottom line is that Berrian is younger, faster, and produces more.

Actually Berrian is older, he was born 12/27/80 Stallworth was born 11/10/80. But i guess you know what you're talking about. I would have just mentioned the injuries. As far as Stallworhts performance on the Patriots, He was the #3 behind Moss and Welker. I dont know of alot of #3's that put up 1200+ yards.

I was saying Berrian is older than Booker.

A #3 on a record breaking team. Stallworth will fall off soon and Berrian needs to get out of Chicago before the ship sinks.

I totally agree. I've been on this for awhile too. good pick up for the eagles. FO should be all over this one.

FORGET about Bernard Berrian. What do you want, more number 2 guys? We need a number 1 receiver for sure. Bring in a Larry Fitzgerald type player, a true number 1 receiver who doesnt come with the baggage a number 1 receiver usually does come with. Number 2, we need to get someone like D.J. Hackett or Jerry Porter, someone to start opposite our number 1 guy. Next, Move Curtis to the slot, where he will excel and be like a Wes Welker. As for Reggie Brown? Work him into the trade for the number 1 receiver, dump his inconsistancy on someone else. He hasn't been consistant enough to be worth the money hes getting and the number 1 spot he has.

In the draft, we need to go after Deshawn Jackson. There isnt another player like him who has the breakaway speed, ability to adjust mid route, the elusiveness, and the punt/kickoff returnability that he does in this draft, so we just cant pass up on him. This should solve our problems on special teams (which we hoped to solve with Jeremy Bloom but couldn't).

This should solve all our offensive woes, and give us back the dynamic offensive attack we had at the start of the 06 season, probably better. Our offensive line should be ok, but depth can be added in the draft. We just could not be healthy through out the whole season (also maybe try MJG at left guard). With such a great WR corps, a great 1,2 punch at tightend, great play at offensive line (which should be back to form ) and an explosive running game with Westbrook, Tampa may be closer in our sights than we think :)

man, how many recievers do you want? we need just one reciever. Reggie Brown is going to come in his own. his time is now. he's only been here going on his 3rd yr. add bernard berrian to what we already have, get LJ healthy, and we are straight on offense. lets focus on strengthning the defense.

Easier said than done, the Eagles don't have a "free pass" at any #1 receiver in the league buddy. They have to take what they can get and Berrian is one of the few realistic options.

How bout Jerry Porter. he hasnt put up jack squat for stats recently but we all know hes capable and he'll be a free agent. If we get him and another free agent KR/PR in eddie drummond then our O should be set and we could put Brown at #3 WR with Porter at #1 and Curtis at #2 and a healthy LJ Smith. with drummond we'd have decent field position for once and a solid O. then we'd easily have the cash left to beef up our already great D with Samuel and/or a D-lineman.
Porter was great with Gannon throwin to him early in his career but since then hes had no QB and he hates Oakland.

The Eagles NEED 2 get a great receiver.. if Berrian is availabe pick him up.. but don't stop there.. we need 2 get another wide reciever either in the draft or free agency.. we should get Stallworth and Berrian bcuz both are available.. kevin curtis should move 2 tha slot and should be used like wes welker.. But look with mcnabb, Westbrook, LJ, Curtis, Stallworth, Berrian and Jim Johnson's Defense
we will be untouchable!!

sounds good!!! I'm in favor.

this would be a good deal him and reggie could play 1 and 2 and curtis could go to the slot where he is best suited even though he is better than brown. I mean Berrian looked good with the likes of Brian Griese and Rex (which one will play today) Grossman throwing him the ball. D-Mac is a huge upgrade over those two. I think Berrian could surprise a few people and one more thing im sick of hearing ppl talk about the eagles getting FItz or Johnson. Look Fitz would want huge money to come here ever wonder why the cardinals are so bad you cant pay one WR that much money. An Johnson has some baggage but again he would cost a fourtune in a contract plus the eagles would have to give up too much to get him. i would love to see he eagles sign Berrian then trade Brown and a 4th rounder for Roy WIlliams that would give us Roy as a big WR n redzone target and Berrian and Curtis as deep threats and all this would open up the middle for LJ

please stop with the idiotic fantasy trades. williiams will at least cost us 1st rounder and 2nd round pick (maybe 3)...youve got to be an idiot to think you can get williams for brown and a 4th rounder.

All this talk about WR s(and yes I agree the Eagles need one), but I am the only one who still thinks we need to add a power running back to the offense? I like the Berrian move if it saves cap room and trade options for a RB. B-West can't continue to do it all.

That's what Tony Hunt will eventually be.

Tony is garbage. Only Penn State fans think he will be good. HE WILL NEVER BE LARRY JOHNSON, He couldnt be Larry Johnsons backup, He'll be washing Larry Johnson's car professionally in 2 years.

OK... and just what do you do for a living???? Get a life!! Give the guy a break..Its fans like you we don't need

I agree, The Eagles don't need fans like me because I think Tony Hunt is Garbage and does not have the skill set to be a RB in the west coast offense. So that means the Eagles don't need coaches like Andy Reid because apparently he thinks Tony Hunt sucks too judging by the fact he put hin on the field twice all regular season. Twice to miss blocks and Donovan got blind sided. You need to block and catch to play running back in the west ccast offense. Tony hunt does neither. But i guess since i feel that way the eagles don't need fans like me. I'll burn the tattoo off my right bicep, cancel my season tickets and throw away all my Eagles merhandise.

KEEP THE TAT BROTHER SAY WHAT YOU GOTTA SAY......IF HE SUCKS WELL LETS MOVE ON....WE NEED TO HAVE THESE GUYS START EARNING THE MONEY WE PAY THEM....IF NOT .....NEXT........IF HUNT SUCKS HE NEEDS TO GO..... GRAB SOMEBODY ELSE WE HAVE A LOTTA DRAFT PICKS......

I agree Hunt is garbage and the whole reason he didnt play this past year is because he was a dope and couldn't remember plays or blocking assignments. On another note i like the Jerry Porter idea if we cant get Fitz or Roy W. Remember what Moss did when he left the shitty Raiders!! Also, Ocho Cinco can go to a shitty team like Baltimore, Miami, or even the Redskins. The clown that CJ is hasnt named one contender team he wants to go to! Phila dont want you or your hall of fame jacket! PEACE!

OMG Berrian is NOT a great receiver...we don't another number 2 or 3 receiver...we need a TRUE number 1 guy, cause we all know what Donovan can do with that. Give up on the Roy Williams trade cause that will not happen. Who would be stupid enough to give up Roy Williams for Reggie Brown of all receivers. Reggie Brown's time in philly has to end, plain and simple. I like Jerry Porter, Javon Walker would be good too (sign him to a 1 year offer and if he stays healthy and has a great season then work on something later)....but yes i think the main player we should go after is Torry Holt...He is disgruntled in St Louis right now, and is still an elite receiver....big game Tory Holt is mr consistancy....get him, and if we can afford Javon, get him too (but iunno if that will happen)...

but yes i suggest do what i said above. Forget Larry Fitzgerald actually cause he might be TOO expensive....get TORRY HOLT....have Javon start opposite him (if not, then just start a free agent like jerry porter or DJ Hackett across from him), have curtis work the slot, and get rid of reggie brown

1.) Berrian is better than Avant/Baskett/Lewis - Take an upgrade where you can get one, so what if he's not a number #1. Welker is not a #1 and New England would be pretty crappy without him. 3 No. 2's are better than 2 No. 2's and 3 #4's.

2.) You're an idiot if you want to get rid of Reggie Brown. Last year was suppose to be his break out year; however he had slow start and came on strong at the end of the year. Reggie Brown will have a better season than Javon Walker (coming off an injury), Jerry Porter (lost a step) and D.J. Hackett (can't start more than 8 games) next year, I can guarantee you that. If they have to part with him to take Williams, do it, but I wouldn't take Walker, Porter, or Hackett over Brown. That would be silly.

Great...all we need are more number 3 receivers....BERRIAN IS NOT THE ANSWER....

this sounds more like an eagles move, lets remember they aren't the foreskins who just throw boat loads of cash to players w/out regard to future cap numbers...but, berrian is overrated!!! i think they would get better value with a guy like Bryant Johnson or DJ Hackett, both bigger receivers who would be more of a threat in the red zone!! they can draft a burner to stretch the field!!

gotta love DJ Hackett for the price, right now we have no legitimate end zone target, thats why our red zone offense was so pitiful. Get Hackett, its a wise move.

Roy would be availble for Brown and a 4th rounder because Brown already has a long term contract and after this season Roy is due to be a free agent and if the lions know he doesnt want to stay they will take what they can get for him now instead of losing him in free agency so it isnt that big of an idiot thing to believe.

Thank you Bleeding Green, but yes Bryant Johnson isn't the way to go, hes over rated himself, and yes he sucks. DJ Hackett isn't a number 1 receiver. We need a number 1 receiver first, then we can talk about getting Hackett as a number 2, as he would be solid starting there, with Curtis at the slot

escobar, I agree we need a #1 WR but fact is they just aren't gonna go all out to get one. i mean all we gave up for TO was a 3rd round pick and freakin brandon whiting in 2004. if they could get Roy Williams or someone in a trade at minimum cost (i.e. Reggie "I came on really strong at the end of the season" Brown) they'll do it, but they don't give up early picks and they probably won't break the bank for any WR either. i think best case scenario we bring in Johnson or Hackett to move Curtis to the slot and draft someone who we can HOPEFULLY develop into a #1 receiver. basically AR needs to get over himself and realize that he's schemes aren't good enough to overcome a lack of talent in our WR corps!!! they probably wont even draft a WR till the third round (at the earliest)...my prediction is CB, OT (in either order depending on who's avail), then they will look at WR and return specialists!!

bringin back stallworth and draft WR at second round first round dominique rodgers cromartie
