Bradley
Football is all about controlling the line of scrimmage.  On their own, Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley haven't turned into dominating players who frequently penetrate offensive lines and make plays in the backfield.  Together though, they have become one of the best defensive tackle tandems in football, refusing to relent at the point of attack, eating up blockers and allowing their teammates to come up with big stops. They were arguably the two most valuable players in...

If Joe Mays continues to look good, he should start. Then on passing downs take Mays and Gocong out and put in Gaither and a corner.

Gaither's strength is in stopping the run, not dropping back in zone or covering receivers man-to-man. We should play Gaither on 3rd and short, if at all.

Gaither is much faster then Mays. As of now it's our only option.
On third and short I want Joe Mays in there.

yeah theres a reason why stewart was starting over gaither but i think gaither has the tools to be a solid starter if can get his head on straight. gaither is a better pass rusher but needs to become a better run stopper that being said i dont think its going to be that much of a drop off

I don't think Mays or Gaither can perform as well as Bradley in both stopping the run and the pass. However, this Wilhelm guy (who is about the same size as Bradley) could come remotely close to what Bradley provides.

This obviously hurts because we have already lost our emotional leader, our defensive coordinator, and now we lose our signal caller and team leader in tackles. There is no replacing that. Our defense can still remain top 10, but it will have to be our offense which carries the team this year if we want to make it to the playoffs.

Joe Mays did lead the league in preseason tackles last year. I listened to an interview and he seemed to have a good mindset of taking over the reigns of defensive signal caller. I think he can do well for the first several games of the season before Wilhelm takes over.

I don't think Willhelm is anything but a backup. If he even makes the team. If we move Gaither back to MLB, that will open up a spot for Tracy or Tank, both know the system and are good special teams players.

Dude started for San Diego back when they were one of the league's best defenses. Then he fell off with some injuries and got cut. We were lucky to get him because many other teams were looking to sign him as well.

wilhelm had only 74 tackles in 14 starts in 07. and that was in a 3-4 defense. so he`s not as good as you think he is. good backup yes, but not a starter in a 4-3.

There was an analyst on sportsnet who thought he would be starting by week 6 once he learned McDermott's defense.

maybe he will be ready in time for SB! BUT, would we want that? he would be rusty.

you won`t see bradley until next season.

We can't afford to keep him on the roster all season. IR he will go.

In actuality.....First Dawkins, then Johnson, Now Stewart Bradley! The Eagles Middle Linebacker, the Man with the MIKE! The man that has already placed fear into offenses around the league...... He made the linebacking group look better! AND NOW!

    Were SCREWED!!!!!!!
  • they'll be ok, the depth in the secondary can help with coverage. i would like to see mays win the job, but i have a feeling that gaither will get the nod by september

Im very worried about our defense when we lost Jim Johnson, Brian Dawkins and Stewart Bradley.... those were the 3 top leaders we had....Quentin Mikell needs to step it up hardcore and I think he can. I hope Joe Mays can do what some people say he can

Worry more about chemistry than leadership. Leadership is not a big a void to fill as people make it seem. We have plenty of guys who can lead, whether it be by example or vocally. Q has been doing a great job of that in camp, as has Asante. I fully expect Sheldon to do the same on the field when the season gets going. Replacing Dawk from a talent perspective at this point in his career isn't difficult, they upgraded in that aspect. Replacing Stew will be virtually impossible however and definitely worries me.
  • WATCH OUT!!!for MAYS a hungrey player, with something to prove!!!HEAD SPRUNG--NOSE FOR THE BALL---SLEEPER IN MIKE SYSTEM--FOR EAGLES---we are not screwed---EAGLES HAVE TWO LOCK DOWN CORNERS--SAFTY SUSPECT RIGHT NOW. you heard me here, joe mays will play outstanding BALL--

Mays-Gaither-Wilhelm...expect to see a heavy rotation. Neither guy can be an every down MLB or even handle a bulk of the snaps. Mays is too short to do much in the passing game and let's be serious...he has ZERO experience and didn't even play for a real college team. Sure he looked great last preseason, against backups.
