Why does Dave Spadaro avoid the Eagles WR issue?

Every Dave Spadaro article I've read seems to avoid addressing the reality that our WRs are under achievers and are just not very talented (except Curtis). The thing that gets me is how can you not bash our WRs but openly lobby to trade McNabb (which he had done in a few articles last year) .When I read his articles about Eagles needs or who they should draft he either briefly mentions them or just plain skips the subject. My question to you is why don't the Eagles or Dave Spadaro acknowledge the WR position? Do they assume that a healthier offense will be that much better?

The article I've posted is just one example of the many articles Dave has written and not mentioned WRs.

Also if you've heard anything on the Chad Johnson situation feel free to comment on that because I have no idea whats happening there.

also, on eagles live, when a caller starts talking about a WR, he goes, "We're good with the group we have, thanks for calling." and hangs up. he gets me pretty mad

I dont know Dave is brain washed by those that sign his check, sometimes he sounds like and Andy Reid clone. He hypes up these WR's like they're pro-bowl players. Brown was expected to step it up last season and did virtually nothing, Baskett and Avant for some reason dont see the field right along with Lewis. Then they keep signing Gasperson and Sampy, which they've done for the last two years and havent done us any good.

He probably was brainwashed. Well with all of the modern advancements in technology.

he is a puppet. thats it. he is here to make everything look good so that ppl dont go crazy about issues. nothin more.

I agree Dave doesn't mention the WR like we would want him 2 and yeah I do agree that we need one more proven #1 WR.. but I DONT agree w/ wat u guys are saying about Reggie Brown.. I was watching some of our games the other day and saw that Brown was actually a factor on the field!!

U wanna know why Reggie wasn't as good as he was in 06?? because he didn't have anyone on the other side 2 make him better!! ( no disrespect to Kevin Curtis's abilities, but Donte Stallworth was more of a presence on the outside) and also inconsistent QB play over majority of the season..

I loved how Reggie played down the stretch but he was the #1 WR this year and didn't deliver. I think what separates him from a true #1 WR is confidence and a little bit more natural talent and he really gained some by the end of the year. You could really see it in his body language.

true

I remember watching the live feed of the Asante Samuel press conference, and before it started he was taking questions from callers. One asked about the wide receiver situation and he got really defensive, saying it was "Asante's day" and they shouldn't be asking about it. I agree, it was an important day for Asante, but he certainly was a bit harsh about his disapproval for talking about it. I dunno what his problem is with talking about the whole issue.

Maybe he still has the taste of T.Os' balls in his mouth because while T.O. was here he sure was sucking his D.

I believe the Philadelphia Eagles signs Dave Spadaro's paychecks, he has to say the proper things....

I cant blame him for avoiding the questions. They get old, I am tired of hearing it and I dont have to put up with countless callers a day asking the same crap. Bottom line is they have a decent group at WR. Unless they can add someone that IS A TRUE #1 then its not worth the time. We dont need any more #2's. Thats why we didnt go after Berrian, Porter or Hackett. With a healthy McNabb and a productive TE the Eagles should have all they need to get back into the playoffs.

I think they don't openly acknowledge the WR position because its not the most important. I just think that we want them to say it. But if we looked at what the eagles have tried to do, though they openly say the WRs are good enough, they do try to make moves at that positions. Its like eagles fans just wanna hear them say it. I don't need to to say it, as long as they do it. Did they draft Freddie Mitchell in the first round? Did they get T.O.? Did they get Stallworth? Did they get Kevin Curtis? DId they go after Randy Moss and inquire about Fitz? The answer to all of these is YES! Though Freddie Mitchell was a bust, they still tried.

I don't care about them actually saying it, but their actions in recent years and current tells me they care and I can't fault them for trying. Listen, every year can't be a year that you make a big move. It just doesn't work like that. Who was the big free agent WRs out there last year? No too many and they tried to resign Stallworth, but let's face it... I would have left to pay with Tom Brady for the same pay. How many years did they Pats go before they landed the receiving corp they have now? How many pro bowl players did they have to let leave over the years? Plenty, because this is not fantasy football. The Eagles will make the moves when the opportunity arises and if someone is available I have full confidence they will act on it as they always do.

4th and 26- Freddie Mitchell. Thats what I remember about him. He was a Philly hero then- now he's just another name for someone to bash.

i agree. the day samuel was signed, actually when he announced it i was on the phone with him. i asked about changing Sheldon to safety then i asked about fitz coming to the eagles, he seemed to blow off the question and just ask what do you think about the situation, and we dont need upgrading there. reality is, if and when we sign a true #1 he will be saying "the eagles filled another peice to the puzzle" and "they added the playmaker they needed". why deny the truth, just admit its a position we can definetly improve in.

he's what they call " a company man". spadaro says what the eagles want him to say. plain and simple it's all about his paycheck. you can't blame him for it i would do the same thing if i got to go on lavish trips with alumni and interview players on the best team in the nfl

Fact: The Eagles were 1 of 5 teams last year to have 2 receivers with 60+ receptions.

I believe Welker had 112 catches which basically doubles our WR output.

Welker is an extraordinary player. It also helps that your QB is Tom Brady and Randy Moss and Donte Stallworth get all the attention on the outside. Having 2 WRs with 60+ receptions and a RB with 90+ receptions is pretty damn good.

To Brady is not all that much better then McNabb if you exclude this year for both of them. Brady never broke 30 TDs until this year and they passed 85 % of the time check on NFL.com. Brady has 3 Superbowl rings over McNabb and thats it.

That was Westbrook and Curtis. The sad thing was one of them was our RB. Check the Eagles website

The fact that Westbrook had more receptions then all of our WRs is pathetic. Not on his part thats Amazing, the WRs part. Last time I checked the WRs job is to catch the ball and the RBs job is to run the ball and if they can catch thats a bonus. So zzawarski it's really not that impressive that only 1 of our WRs unless you count Westbrook a RB had over 60 catches.

You're wrong. Reggie Brown has 61 receptions. Kevin Curtis had 77 receptions. And Westbrook had 90 to boot, but still having 2 WRs with 60+ is good.

My bad looked at last years stats. :(

* Reggie Browns'

no it was brown and curtis remember brown had 62 catches

Spadaro is the ultimate Big Red boot licker

Dave does what he has too. It's not his job to get into rumors, and its definately not his job to put down the team. Which is what he would be doing if he came out and said we need better receivers. Imagine how it would look to the outside if the Eagles "Insider" came out saying that the WRs aren't good enough and we need an upgrade? First of all, he would piss off people in the organization, including the WRs, which would make his job really hard... If he still had a job. He wants a playmaker at the position as much as we do. If you can't respect his position with the team and the fact that he can't indulge people with rumors and fantasy trades, then don't read his articles. Stay off PE.com and just stick to the lies and BS you read on here.

He's Gay...

You guys are right.....just within the last three years, I have started keeping up with eagles.com and every year, he has made me think that the eagles are a superbowl team for sure, and then I check out espn and what they have to say is completely opposite. I never wanted to hear what they had to say and always listened to spadaro but have always been disappointed to find out that the other commentators are right and spadaro is just kool-aid.

I dont know about you guys but I got spoiled in 2004 when McNabb was throwing bombs and everytime he threw it, its like I knew it was going to be caught or there was going to be a pass interference. Brown and Curtis are good route runners but last year, we seen way too many corners running by them when McNabb threw it down the field.

Hey, call me stupid, but I still don't have a real problem with our team. Five will come in with his confidence back and that alone will cover a world of sins. I love the bomb too and it looked like Raiders East in 2004. The thing is though, success in the NFL is short lived. Whatever you are doing to be successful this year, some bright coach is going to take it away next year and when one gets it, they all get it, with one exception.. They still have not solved Reids west coast offense. It's like that old beat up pickup truck, say what you want but the damned thing works. And I still think Spadaro is a boot licker!

I don't think Dave would ask for a reciever here, because he's pretty close with Hank Baskett and G Lew. I saw him in Chickie n Pete's in South Philly. spliting a order of Crab Fries with Hank Baskett last Wed. then Dave, Hank, and Owner of Chickie's Pete himself jumped into the Taxi Crab and went to AI's return at the Sixer's game

dave gets paid by the eagles to tell us how great they are ....... so when's the superbowl parade dave ?

REGGIE BROWN HAD 62 catches

yea dave sucks he know nothings about football he just is like the liaison between fo office and real fans he doesnt have real opinions he just tries to make you feel good about shitty situations wideout has been a problem forever and if they do sign hell be the first one to say what a great move it was but not before just like when TO came hes a tool

He is employed by the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES!!! Whats so hard to figure out?????

If he's employed by the Eagles which we know he is and he's not supposed to talk badly about the team then why did he say we should trade McNabb who essentially is the franchise.

Reggie had 62 catches... but how many were where it counted? In the endzone...
We need a red zone target... We can have awesome defense but if we can't convert... then what? It is a problem that needs to be addressed.

Had did Reggie the no show Brown get 62 catches. The must have accidentally added his preseson stats to the regular season.

i know why, cuz the Eagles suck

Thats why we had better season then the Broncos right.

Win a Super Bowl, then we can talk

First have a winning season and then WE'LL talk.

what you think more important, Super Bowl or winning season? most likely you gonna have a winning season with a Super Bowl

Eagles didn't have winning season this year either
Eagles have no Super Bowls, Broncos have 2
All time, Eagles have a losing record, Broncos have an all time winning record

We've won the division 6 out of the last 8 years. How many times have your Broncos been beaten by the Chargers now. Dude the Broncos of this decade duck. Stop bringing up Superbowl wins in th past because the only important thing is what you're doing now and last time I checked the Broncos have sucked recently.

Yep they definitely suck recently, thats why they were in the AFC Championship Game in 2006

You are bringing up the present instead of the past, so what? Eagles don't have any Super Bowls past or present. So what about division titles. If you don't win the Super Bowl, it really doesn't matter.

Yeah your whole playoff run was a fluke every team you played sucked D. And wow 1 AFC championship game. Try 4 Straight NFC championship games.

Yep, our Super Bowl run sucked, we were 13-3 during the season, and beat the Patriots in the playoffs, Brady's first playoff loss.

Try 0 Super Bowl wins for you guys during your 4 straight NFC champ. games
Football is about winning it all, and last I checked the Eagles haven't so quit complaining

still better then you one championship game and SB loss so quit B#tching.

yep, 2 Super Bowl victories isn't that good, it is whern compared to the Eagles

And I'm not the one whose complaining, all I said first was Eagles suck, you took it to another level

spud head is a puppet for the front office!!!!

its cuz its such a beat to death issue....i know we all want one believe me i want one sooo bad but even the day we signed samuel thats all ppl could talk about...be happy we'll get someone spadaro doesnt make decisions hes just givin his opinion which is as good as any of ours
