This is a team that nobody expected this type of start from. Nobody except the coaches, players and myself. I am a firm believer in "you play to win the game" and so when I saw the offseason moves that were made, I thought we could have a great year.
This is a team of talented younger veteran players. Bart Scott and David Harris may be the best tandem of linebackers in the league. Darrell Revis and Kerry Rhodes lead a big time playmaking secondary that got drastically better with the additions of Lito Shephard and Jim Leonhard. On the offensive side you have Alan Faneca, D'brickashaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold Damien Woody and Tony Richardson blocking for Thomas Jones and Leon Washington. Then there is the one man mismatch known as Dustin "Killer" Keller at TE and the boy wonder Mark "Sanchize" leading that unit. On special teams, you have Brad Smith, Wallace Wright and they added Larry Izzo. This team is loaded with talent all around.
What this team was lacking was a leader. Chad Pennington was that leader, then they dumped him for the Favre experiment. He gave it a shot in the arm last year, but the real leader was too conservative for this town. That is why the days of Eric Mangini are over and we now are into the "Wrecks" Ryan Era.
This man is a larger than life character. He reminds me of a Knute Rockney, Bill Parcells or Vince Lombardi type of coach. One that will yell, cuss and scream at his players out of his love for them and his love for the game. The schemes he is devising week in and week out are perfect for when they are needed most. He has the "Ruthian" type of persona that is infecteous and all of his players are picking up on that.
This is a team that will be very deadly all year and he is bringing a culture here that will make this a team that nobody wants to come into town to play.
