Today it was announced that Willis McGahee would have arthroscopic knee surgery on his left knee. The knee has bothered him since the start of training camp, to which he reported overweight and out of shape. McGahee: "It could get better. That's what training camp is for. I know I'm rusty. I know I'm not going to come to training camp and be on point. That's hard, and I've got to work to that level." Granted, McGahee was only four pounds overweight, but the dude skipped nearly all of the team's offseason workouts, during which time offensive coordinator Cam Cameron installed the new offense. If coach Harbaugh is serious about changing this team's attitude, he should start with guys like McGahee. Prepare hard. Be responsible. Don't skip mandatory minicamps. Be a team player, especially when your team has a new quarterback, head coach, offensive coordinator, offensive line, and you're the team's #1 running back.

  • I HATE when players come in to training camp and need surgery right away. If there was some issues there, then get the surgery in February after the season, not waiting until the beginning of the season.
  • Maybe Ray Rice shows something and can unseat fatty mcgahee
  • McGahee has always been a player that's lazy in the offseason and reports to camp in not-so-great physical condition. The same thing happened last year. Think back to how many times we had to take him out of games, because he was sucking for air. Willis is a guy who plays hard and turns it on when it really matters and tries to cruise the rest of the time. You'd like the guy to have a better work ethic, because we're paying him so much.
  • How many years is he under contract? I can't remember: three or five total?
  • He signed a 7- year deal in spring of 2007, but the last two years are options (essentially a 5-year deal). He'll receive a option bonus after this year of $1.5 million. Granted, NFL contracts aren't guaranteed like they are in baseball.

Brendon Ayanbadejo Will Be Huge For Ravens

Linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo is the 6-foot-1, 228-pounder that made his way all over the Gillette Stadium turf, leading all players with eight tackles, including one sack and adding three quarterback pressures. Watch for him to be a key figure this year in the Raven's defense. However, Ayanbadejo knows he is far from becoming a regular in an All-Star linebacking corps. The...

Suggested Reading for Worried Ravens Fans

Listening to Baltimore sports talk radio on my way home from work today, I couldn't help but hear great panic for the upcoming season. With question marks at quarterback and offensive tackle and numerous injuries, Ravens fans have a lot on their minds. I suggest cracking open a Natty Boh, kicking back, and reading a good book. Here's a list of Ravens books to read that...

Is Practice the Root of the Problem for the Ravens’ Offense?

Despite being a jealous douche most of the time, Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun occasionally makes a good point. And points don't usually get better than this. On the Ravens' Insider blog, Preston opined that the defense practicing full force against the offense rarely gives the quarterbacks time to go through their reads and make good throws. Given that the Ravens are...

Ed Reed Concerned About Shoulder Injury

Ravens S Ed Reed's nagging shoulder injury has the veteran concerned, despite his head coach's optimism. John Harbaugh recently said Reed should be good to go for the season opener against Cincinnati. But Reed was more guarded with his replies. "It's day-to-day right now, it's a little bit more in-depth than you've been hearing about," Reed said. "...

Ravens Sign Veteran Fullback Lorenzo Neal

The Ravens continue to tweak their roster, and today they added veteran fullback Lorenzo Neal.? The 37-year-old knows all about 1000-yard rushers, as he's been the lead blocker for a 1000 yard rusher for 11 straight seasons.?
