Joe Flacco spent a few minutes on the phone with the Yard today. I have to admit, as a Ravens fan, I was skeptical of the pick. Especially at eighteen. Not because of Flacco's skill or potential, but because Kyle Boller never amounted to anything more than a career backup. I'm scarred and scared. One thing I do love, though, is Flacco's accent. They'll love him in Baltimore. Nice guy. Hopefully a great QB, too. You can read the full article at the link. - Dewey

Good stuff D-Man! Flacco seems really nice. I just hope they don't throw him in the fire right away and let him develop. I think he could be a very good player and I hope he pans out for the Ravens.

Thanks, FB. I agree that it would be a poor move to throw Flacco into the fire his first year. Bring him along slowly. Sit him for a year and let him adjust. Let Boller and Smith battle it out for the starting position this year, and groom Flacco for the future. No need to rush things. And you're right, he was a really nice guy. I have a feeling he'll really enjoy Baltimore, too. Just a gut feeling.
  • that was a good article i like flacco and i think in time you will be impressed with him to, very level headed guy. i can't honestly see them starting him right away but i could be wrong.

I think this could end up being the steal of the draft. He's got great size and unlimited potential. When it's all said and done I think he will be the starter in Baltimore and end up being the best QB of this draft. The guys also very smart, he had one of the highest scores on his wonderlic test.
    • agreed, phillygreen: i like him alot. i spoke to someone that went to school with him & watched him play throughout, nothing but good things to come from this guy for sure!!!

      NICE write up Dewey!!

        Thanks, CK.
  • The biggest overdraft of the 2008 draft, no doubt about it. He wasn't going anywhere, yet the Ravens felt they need to move up to get him. A blunder of monumental proportions. Jim Druckenmiller called, he's preparing to pass the torch of the most overdrafted QB of the Century to Joe Flacco.

I agree that drafted him #18 was a reach -- he probably would have been there at #26, and maybe even when the Ravens drafted near the top of the second (#40, I think) -- but if he pans out, no one is going to care or remember where he was drafted. I'll reserve judgment until after he actually steps onto an NFL field, but he does look like he throws with accuracy and zip. Also, I like that he's confident without being arrogant. I think that's exactly what you need in a QB. I haven't heard much about his ability to read defenses, so hopefully he can not only do that but also adjust to the increased speed of the NFL game. Also, I'm pretty sure Delaware played in the shotgun so he'll have to work on dropping back.

      Here are some Flacco highlights.

Two good young QB's on the roster now to battle Boller for the starting spot. Should be an interesting training camp coming up. Good situation to have.
