A look at the battle for the backup Quarterback

Clifford barley saw any action during the regular season as Love was able to stay healthy.

The one highlight for him was completing a long pass to Bo Melton late in the Sunday Night showdown against the Vikings.

Coming into the 2024 offseason, the Packers wanted to bring in some competition for Clifford.

You might ask yourself, why?

There is some questions though as to whether or not he would be able to step in if Love got hurt.

Though Clifford had a great 2023 preseason, he barley had any competition.

Although the Packers had Alex McGough on the roster, Clifford easily outperformed McGough.

The battle for Backup Quarterback

Both Pratt and Clifford are similar in size and their type of style at the QB position.

Both have very high football IQ and have great leadership skills.

Though Clifford has been drawing comparisons to former Packers QB Matt Flynn.

But Pratt brings in more potential than Clifford.

Pratt was a four year starter at Tulane and started 44 games.

During his time at Tulane he threw for 90 touchdowns and ran for another 28 touchdowns.

Another thing Pratt has over Clifford is age.

Even though Clifford is only in his second year, he is 26 years old.

Pratt enters his rookie season at 22 years old.

If the Packers do want to develop a QB and possibly use it to getting any trade value back Pratt would have more upside.

Clifford would be 29 by the time his rookie contract runs out.

Keeping 3 Quarterbacks

Of course, the Packers have the option to keep all 3 QB’s on the roster.

It has been a while since the Packers kept all 3 QB’s on the roster.

But don’t be surprised if the Packers keep all 3 Quarterbacks.

Pratt has a lot of potential, after he dropped to the Packers in the draft.

He was projected to be a 3rd or 4th rounder but injury concerns said otherwise.

Conclusion

If Pratt can stay healthy, he can possibly put up some competition for Clifford for the back up spot.

It will be interesting to see the battle between these two during training camp and preseason.
