A flurry of Aaron Hernandez merchandise has flooded the online world in the wake of the former New England Patriots tight end being charged with first-degree murder. It is a great example of people trying to cash in on the notoriety of the fallen star. Prices have soared to thousands of dollars for some of Hernandez's apparel. However, one seller trying to capitalize on the situation ran into some trouble while auctioning off a Hernandez jersey on eBay. Apparently, the vigilant buyer placed repeated bids on the jersey only to refuse to pay after winning the auction. The jersey and signed mini-helmet combination sold for $305. But the seller is doubtful he will ever receive payment from the winning bidder."I don't think that I will be getting paid," the seller wrote to Yahoo! Sports. "The person emailed me stating I should 'burn the jersey and stop seeking money for that morons (sic) actions'. Looks like the person has some kind of social agenda."It appears as though this isn't the only jersey the buyer has bought and refused to pay for, either. On Wednesday alone, Yahoo! Sports was able to find details of 15 Hernandez jerseys the supposed buyer had "bought," totaling $3,806 at an average of just over $250 a jersey.Yikes! As noble as the phantom buyer's actions may or may not be, they could very well face serious repercussions for their fraudulent activity. Most notably, the seller might be able to seek punitive damages in civil court, or if the situation is warranted, perhaps even an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission. The black market for Aaron Hernandez was created following Hernandez’s arrest for the murder of Odin Lloyd last Wednesday. The NFL and the Patriots removed his uniform and related memorabilia from their online stores. Thus, making Hernandez apparel floating around in the general public more valuable. Oh, the irony.Via Yahoo! Sports
