With all the media attention that NFL superstars are accustomed to getting, we tend to think they are all cut out for show business. That is not always the case. While they’re used to appearing on camera, they don’t have to act when they do so. Well, some of them do, but that’s a topic for a different day. With Eli Manning set to appear on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, Aaron Rodgers reminded about how hit or miss celebrity and athlete appearances can be when they’re live from New York.

“I have been invited. I want to do it, I want to do it right,” Rodgers said according to NFL.com. “The commitment that it takes in my opinion to do it the right way was just too much for me this offseason, so I will be doing that in the future and look forward to the opportunity.

“Peyton Manning set the bar pretty high so it will be interesting to watch Eli this week to see if he can live up to his brother’s appearance on there. … As we’ve seen, if you watch the show, you can tell the people who really put the time in on it, and the people who maybe couldn’t make the same kind of commitment.”

Too much commitment? Live up to his brother’s appearance? If I didn’t know any better I would say Aaron is trying to intimidate Eli a little bit here. That being said, he’s right. Hosting “SNL” takes guts, and Eli is going to be compared to his brother whether he likes it or not. Then again, he’s always been compared to his brother and two Super Bowl rings seem to indicate that the comparisons don’t bother him one bit.
