Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers told Jason Wilde on his weekly show on WAUK-AM (540) that Charles Woodson is one of the core players of the team and needs to be brought back for next season. “I know he is under contract and that he is an important part of our football team,” Rodgers said about Woodson. “I think he adds a lot. He is still playing at a really high level. He’s very intelligent and sets a good example in preparation. He’s always watching film. He did a great job, especially, with guys like Sam Shields and Tramon (Williams), a couple of years back. He kind of took them under his wing. Now Tramon is carrying on that tradition. . . . Having his presence around the locker room really helps, setting an example for the young guys. It helps me out, as far as being the leader.” Rodgers was asked if he thought Woodson, 36, would entertain the idea of taking a pay cut to remain with the team, less than the $10 million he is due next season. “I really don’t like talking for other players,” Rodgers said. “Especially when money is involved. That gets a little dicey. That is something they would have to work out. I have said this before about other players. I don’t think you get better by taking from the whole, taking a core guy. And I think he is a core guy.” With Woodson scheduled to make $10 million in each of the next two seasons, the Packers will have to see if he’ll be willing to take a pay cut to stick around. I think Woodson has another two years left in him as a safety if he wants to keep playing.     Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })(); sr_adspace_id = 1000005525107; sr_adspace_width = 300; sr_adspace_height = 250; sr_ad_new_window = true; sr_adspace_type = "graphic";

Ranking The Rookies: Terrell Manning

A summer illness kept Green Bay’s fifth-round pick from contributing on defense The Green Bay Packers began the season with 10 rookies on the 53-man roster. That’s a pretty high number – especially for a team than won 15 games the previous year. But GM Ted Thompson didn’t hang on to all those rookies to save money or to make himself look good. He kept them because they could...
