Found October 17, 2013 on Football Extra Points:
Aaron Rodgers has only faced the Cleveland Browns as a starter one time in his career. That was back on week 7 in 2009. The Packers smashed the Browns 31-3. The win moved Green Bay to 4-2 and sent the Browns to 1-6. Oh, have things changed since then. Let me put that in perspective. Of all the players that checked into the defensive box score four years ago, only two are still on the roster:  linebacker Ahtyba Rubin and  center Alex Mack, who made a tackle after a lost fumble. The 2013 version of the Browns is 3-3, and are still in the hunt for the AFC north title almost halfway through the season. Rodgers will have his hands full with a defense that ranks 7th in yards, 8th in passing, and 7th in rushing. Not only will the defense be stout, but the Packers might only enter the game with three healthy wide receivers. Randall Cobb is on IR-DFR, and James Jones is looking more and more like a game-time decision. The Pack do carry five tight ends. Be...

Green Bay Packers: A good defense AND a run game?

Eddie Lacy (Photo credit: Evan Habeeb/USA TODAY Sports) Before the start of the regular season, there were two things that the Green Bay Packers had to address to verify them as a Super Bowl contender.  They had to find a much needed running game and had to improve a defense that has gotten torched the last few seasons.  Through five games of this NFL season, both areas seem to...

Micah Hyde excited to be full-time punt returner

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The loss of Randall Cobb for at least eight weeks is a significant loss for the Green Bay Packers' offense. On punt returns, however, Cobb's absence might not be felt much, at least based on the glowing praise that coach Mike McCarthy gave rookie Micah Hyde. Hyde had been splitting punt-return duties with Cobb situationally in recent weeks after the Packers...

Packers claim WR Chris Harper from 49ers

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- With Randall Cobb out until at least Week 15 and the status of James Jones in question, the Green Bay Packers added a wide receiver to their active roster late Friday. The Packers claimed Chris Harper off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers, releasing running back Michael Hill to clear the necessary roster spot. Harper, listed at 6-foot-1 and 228 pounds, was...

Mike McCarthy gives history lesson to injury ravaged Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- As Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy looked at his team's long list of injuries, many of which are to key players, he knew he needed the right message to share with the rest of the locker room this week. A message that keeps his 43 healthy players focused amidst the absences that are headlined by star outside linebacker Clay Matthews and top receiver Randall...

Packers WR James Jones, OLB Mike Neal questionable vs. Browns

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The injury report for the Green Bay Packers has become so lengthy that having 46 healthy players for Sunday's gameday roster could be a struggle. It's not just bottom-of-the-depth-chart players, either. The Packers already knew they'd be without starting outside linebackers Clay Matthews (thumb) and Nick Perry (foot), as well as leading receiver Randall...

Hit which injured Randall Cobb declared legal, no fine issued

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The low hit that fractured the right fibula of Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb was deemed to be legal by the NFL. Late in the second quarter of the Packers' Week 6 matchup in Baltimore, Ravens rookie safety Matt Elam dove near Cobb's knee to make the tackle. Cobb immediately grimaced as he fell to the ground, which led quarterback Aaron Rodgers...

Eddie Lacy May Become the Packers MVP

The Packers had this feeling that they had struck gold when they drafted Eddie Lacy this past April. A bruising, power running back with the ability to wear down opposing defenses, Lacy was seen as the answer at a position which had been less than inspiring since Ryan Grant stopped being a 1,000 yard rusher. The hope was that Lacy would be able to add another dimension to the already...

WR James Jones, LB Mike Neal miss practice, both could miss game against Browns

According to Jason Wilde of, Green Bay Packers WR James Jones and LB Mike Neal did not practice Friday and put them at risk of not playing Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

James Jones, Mike Neal Missing from Friday's Practice

In news which doesn't bode well for their availability on Sunday, James Jones and Mike Neal were not present at the media portion of practice. The two were considered to be among those that the team was on the fence about playing this week and their unavailability at practice is a hit to their likeliness of playing the Browns this weekend. Per ProFootballTalk: ...

Fantasy Football Week 7: The Creeper Report

Nick Foles might have been the Creeper Report’s greatest acquisition of the year. In my 16 team Euro fantasy football league, where I grabbed a bunch of runners and catchers before realizing all the throwers were going fast, I grabbed Michael Vick in the seventh round. With a new coach and an injury history, he was too much of a question mark for my taste. But he had two good games...

Derek Sherrod Returns to Practice

For all the Packers injuries, it's nice to get some good news on the injury front. Offensive lineman Derek Sherrod returned to practice today on the first day that he was eligible to come of the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Per SB Nation: The big positive news is that Derek Sherrod, who is on the Physically Unable to Perform list, was eligible to practice...

Multiple TE sets likely outcome of WR losses

The Green Bay Packers almost certainly will have to turn more to a two-tight end offense while receiver Randall Cobb is out for at least eight weeks because of a broken fibula. The Packers on Tuesday placed Cobb on injured reserve-designated for return which means he can’t practice for at least six weeks and can’t play in a game for at least eight weeks. Much of the Packers’...

Packers Could Be Down Six Starters for Browns

The Packers will hope that the 50-plus hours until kickoff will get Mike Neal and James Jones ready to face Cleveland on Sunday. For Neal, it's the same shoulder that cost him 2010, though he said he's a game-time decision. Plus injury reports and more from Friday at Lambeau Field.

And Then There Were 2 at OLB

What could be worse than being without Clay Matthews and Nick Perry? Possibly going without Mike Neal. The Packers were down to just two rookies at outside linebacker on Wednesday.

Jermichael Finley appealing 15k fine for block on Suggs

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- A few years ago, a block of this nature might have been part of NFL highlight reels to define hard-hitting football. But with player safety a main emphasis nowadays, the block that Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley put on Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs was deemed to be illegal. Finley was fined 15,750 for what an NFL spokesperson described...
