Last week during a Radio Interview with Sirius/XM NFL Radio, they asked Peterson how he felt about longtime teammate Chris Kluwe being cut. “It hurt me to see him leave,” Peterson said.
Many of us know that Kluwe was a highly outspoken advocate for Gay Rights, and his release sparked some controversy. The cut came a week after Jason Collins announced that he was gay and Kluwe supported him.
Kluwe is now with the Oakland Raiders.
While Peterson and Kluwe are friends on and off the field, he disagrees with Kluwe, and does not believe that the Vikings cut him due to his outspoken support of Gay Rights.
“To each his own, but I’m not with it. I have relatives who are gay. I’m not biased towards them. I still treat them the same. I love them. But again, I’m not with that. That’s not something I believe in. But to each his own,” said Peterson.
“I’m sure the Vikings organization didn’t release him based on that. They know Kluwe. They’ve been knowing him for a long time. They know he’s outspoken.
Minnesota Governor, Mark Dayton, believes that the Vikings had their own agenda in the release.
“Yeah, I don’t feel good about it, I’m not in a position to evaluate the relative punting abilities, but it seems to me the general manager said, right after the draft, they were going to have competition. Well, they bring the one guy in, he kicks for a weekend and that’s competition?”
I admire Peterson. He is one of the best backs to play in the NFL, but in my own opinion I disagree. I admire him for stating his opinion, in a time when if you say anything, the media will attack it. I believe that if you truly love someone, no matter their gender, you should be allowed to love them, without being in fear. I’m not religious, so I can’t claim it to be a sin or not. We make such a big deal about men loving men and women loving women, yet we skip over these people who get divorced 10 times, only to get married 10 more times and divorce them too. We ignore the fact that arranged marriages are still happening to this day. Aren’t those as equally “immoral” as gay marriage?
But it is not my position to talk on that matter.
