Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who to the best of my knowledge isn't cheating on his wife, was cited for driving 109 mph in Minneapolis over the weekend. Early reports indicate he was trying in vain to escape from Brett Favre's shadow.

Edina police spokeswoman Molly Anderson says Peterson was pulled over just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Peterson was driving his BMW on a state highway in a 55-mph zone. Anderson says he was given a citation and allowed to drive away. She called it a "very routine" traffic stop.

This story doesn't answer many questions for me. Was he being chased by his wife? Was he drunk? Was he pissed off that Favre keeps throwing for so many damn red zone touchdowns this year? If only the mainstream media would be a little more consistent with their coverage of star athletes, I wouldn't have to turn to TMZ and Jason Whitlock for news and moral guidance.
