After Adrian Peterson fell painfully short of Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record in 2012, he vowed to eclipse the mark -- and then some -- in 2013.

With five days until the season begins, the Vikings' All-World running back isn't relenting.

In a sit-down with ESPN's Bob Holtzman, Peterson expressed confidence that he'll break the single-season rushing record of 2,105, set by Dickerson in 1984.

“I feel like I will definitely break it. Yeah, I’m going after it this year,” Peterson said, via USA Today Sports.

Last season, Peterson came within eight yards of unseating Dickerson. Even though months have passed and a fresh slate is on the horizon, he still second-guesses himself.

“I look back on that play, so many different things after the case, like man maybe I should have cut inside or if I would have broken one more tackle, I could have gotten that record,” Peterson said.  ”It was there to take, it just wasn’t meant to happen.”

As he's proved by now, Peterson is capable of amazing feats when he's motivated -- or just plain ticked off. Absolutely no one should be surprised if he sprints into the record books in the months ahead.
