Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is having a monster year, and a miraculous one at that. After tearing his ACL and MCL on December 26, 2011, Peterson came back this year with a purpose, defying the medical norm for recovery of an injury of that nature. Now he's poised to break the single-season rushing record. But he'll need a very big game against the Green Bay Packers, 208 yards to be exact, to break the rushing record held by Eric Dickerson, who ran for 2,105 yards in 1984 as a Los Angeles Ram, breaking the record O.J. Simpson set in 1973. Now, 28 years later, a running back is on the doorstep. Peterson does have his work cut out for him against Green Bay, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility. The Packers are ranked 19th against the run, allowing 1,679 yards (avg. 4.4), and when the teams faced on Dec. 2nd, Peterson rushed for 210 yards on 21 carries in a 21-13 Vikings loss. But it should be noted that the Packers were missing linebacker Chris Matthews and defensive end C.J. Wilson that day. "Any time a player has as much attention as he had last time we played them (and still has success), you have to be impressed," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said, via Ben Goessling of TwinCities.com. "When you're chasing history in this league, it's special."
