Yesterday, as the Vikings took on the Packers, Adrian Peterson fell just nine yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson’s 28 year old record of 2,105 rushing yards in a single season.
Following the game, Peterson had a few words for Dickerson, “I’m coming for you”.
While talking to Sports-Illustrated’s Peter King, Peterson was asked if it hurt that he came up short of breaking the record.
“Yes,” Peterson said. “Yes. Yes. The feeling is there. I understand the big picture, but the feeling is there. I wanted this.”
While discussing the single season rushing record, Peterson spoke about the MVP award.
“In my heart, I believe I’m the MVP,” Peterson told King. “Whether I win it or not, I feel I’m the MVP.”
It will be a shame if Peterson does not win the MVP. Yes, Manning has had a great comeback season, but he was not on the same level as Peterson this year. Manning certainly led his team to a better record, but Peterson took his entire team into the playoffs.
Without Peterson, the Vikings are not even close to a playoff team. Without Manning, the Broncos still win the AFC West.
Oh and of course there is that one little addition of Peterson nearly breaking a 28 year record.
Peterson deserves the MVP and better win it when the league announces it in 33 days.
