Most people know Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, entering his third season with the team as coach and executive vice president, as the former USC head coach who has put up a 15-19 record in Seattle, including playoffs.  Of course, that is the “what have you done for me lately” description of Carroll, but since he was hired by USC in December 2000, it is a accurate description on the surface. But Carroll’s underwhelming record in Seattle undermines what he has been able to do at the end of his first two seasons.  The 2010 Seahawks won the sorry NFC West with a losing record, defeating the Saint Louis Rams in the season finale to earn a home playoff game against the defending champion New Orleans Saints.  In what was Matt Hasselbeck’s final home game, the Seahawks upset the Saints 41-35, highlighted by RB Marshawn Lynch’s 67-yard fourth quarter TD run and Hasselbeck’s outstanding performance (22/35, 272 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT).  The Seahawks would be eliminated by the Chicago B...

Now taking nominations for the 2012 Mike Hass Award

Every year, heading into training camp and the preseason, certain players stand out to such a level that they gain a bit of a following. They make an outstanding play in a preseason game, or they have some sort of excellent talent that flew under a lot of teams' radars. Then they either fail to make a mark in the NFL or are cut at the end of preseason. Mike Hass was one such...

Former Charger Kevin Ellison finds himself in the criminal spotlight once again after allegedly setting fire to his apartment building in Liberty Lake Washington. Chris Clemons rejects Seahawks’ contract offer, will hit free agency in 2013

Getty Images According to Len Pasquarelli of the Sports Xchange, the Seattle Seahawks offered defensive end Chris Clemons a three-year contract that would pay him $8 million this season, instead of the original $4 million he’s set to make.  He would then make $4.5 million 2013 and $5.5 million in 2014.  This means Clemons would essentially earn $18 million over three seasons...

Kellen Winslow takes a shot at Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Kellen Winslow has always been outspoken during his football career. He started in college while at the University of Miami and he continued once he followed his father's footsteps into the NFL. Once he arrived in Tampa Bay, however, Winslow decided to keep his mouth shut and let his play do the talking. During his three seasons with...

Seattle Seahawks pass on signing Brian Banks

The Seattle Seahawks signed a linebacker on Friday that attended this week's minicamp on a tryout basis.  The player signed was undrafted rookie Kyle Knok from Fresno State and not Brian Banks who fans had hoped would be signed. Oft-injured Rice still on sidelines in Seattle

By JOHN HOLLER Maybe the Vikings knew what they were doing when they opted out of giving Sidney Rice a huge contract last year when he became an unrestricted free agent. Rice, who spent his first four seasons with the Vikings, has played all 16 games just once in his career -- his breakout 2009 season when he caught 83 passes for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns...
