That’s right ladies and gentlemen, you read it right. Eric Breitenstein, the 5’11 senior from Wofford College is the leading rusher. “Wolverine” had his second biggest rushing game in his career last week against Gardner-Webb, Breitenstein rushed the ball 22 times for 219 yards and two touchdowns. If you think back to the 1995 Purdue season, you will see a similar player to Breitenstein, you will see Mike Alstott. The A-Train had a huge NFL career in Tampa Bay for the Bucs for many seasons after being drafted in the 1996 season with the 35 selection. “The Fat Back” is the term used most for big backs who can get in the box, but what separates “Wolverine” and Alstott from the rest of the fullbacks in the nation is the fact that they can run.
After being out the 2010 season with a knee injury, Breitenstein came back last year and tore it up. He had a huge game against Furman last year where he scored 4 touchdowns and had another 200 plus yard game on the ground. This kid is not a joke, so get ready to see his name coming to a television near you. “Wolverine” is not playing around this year, and already has the lead in the “FCS” division for running backs, but can he do it 2 straight weeks in a row? We shall see……..
