New coaching candidates were uncovered over the weekend and Pewter Report did an outstanding job reporting on all of them and covering all the angles. None of these names are particularly exciting, but by God they’re old and that’s a start. Wade Phillips: All Wade Phillips has done is come into Houston and turn their defense into the #2 defense in the league. Phillips has been in Houston one season, and it just so happens that it’s the first time they’ve ever been to the playoffs. And they won a game. Phillips has always had the reputation of being able to turn defenses around, but this season has him looking like a miracle worker. Phillips keeps getting fired from his head coaching jobs, but the man has a 82-59 record as a head coach, and that’s not too bad. He was just 11-5 two years ago with the Cowboys. Bucs interviewing Wade Phillips

While one report says the Bucs are interested in hiring Mike Sherman, another says they are also going to interview Wade Phillips.

Texans' Wade could coach himself into new job

HOUSTON The Texans are in the playoffs for the first time ever in large part because of Wade Phillips. And they might lose Phillips because they are in the playoffs. Such is the circular nature of the NFL, where Phillips could possibly go from fired as Dallas Cowboys head coach to hired as Houston Texans defensive coordinator to hired as Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach within...

Questioning Wade Phillips’ Loyalty

On Saturday, the Houston Texans not only hosted their first home playoff game, but also won their first playoff game in Franchise history. The Texans beat the Cincinnati Bengals 31-10 on Saturday and now advance to Baltimore next Sunday to play the Baltimore Ravens. While the Texans are celebrating their first playoff win and game planning for the Ravens, there maybe some questions...

Wade Phillips' defense not a great fit for Bucs

The Bucs are expected to discuss their open head-coaching post this week with former Cowboys coach and current Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. It's not shocking that Tampa Bay would take an interest in Phillips given his experience as a head coach -- something the Bucs are looking for -- and his expertise on defense. But it's his defensive philosophy that makes...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Search: Brad Childress, Wade Phillips, and Marty Schottenheimer

On NFL Today before the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Denver Broncos game, Charley Casserly reported the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to interview both Brad Childress and Wade Phillips. Childress is set to be interviewed on Monday, a head scratching choice given his exit from the Minnesota Vikings. Childress faced a near mutiny at the end of his tenure in Minnesota, shunned by the media...

Cowboys Stack Up With Playoff Teams

Former Dallas Cowboys head coach and current NFL Final Eight participant Wade Phillips, the defensive coordinator for the Cowboys' fiercest rival Houston Texans, used to love talkin' stats and how they measured the worth of his football teams. Of course, the Texans rank near the top of the league in defense this year and it's yielded actual results when you think of the...

Kubiak Says that Phillips Will Not Be a Distraction to the Texans

The Houston Chronicle reports today that DC Wade Phillips is not going to distract the team as they get set for the Ravens this Sunday in the divisional round. Coach Gary Kubiak said today that defensive coordinator Wade Phillips’ interview with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Houston on Friday will not be a distraction to the team the day before the Texans leave for Baltimore to play...

Kubiak says Phillips interview won’t be distraction

Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is interviewing for the Bucs head coaching position on Friday, which strikes a lot of Texans fans as odd timing. It’s two days before the team’s biggest game in franchise history. Isn’t Phillips busy? “It will not be a distraction,” coach Gary Kubiak said Monday. “Nothing will change about our…
