Busting out in his second season, Aldon Smith has become one of the league's most prominent pass rushers, a key component of an absolutely stellar defense. More importantly, the 23-year-old has also made a big difference off the field. Smith recently announced that he's donating $5,099 for each sack that occurs during the regular season, with the proceeds split between two local Boys & Girls Clubs. “I am excited to be able to give back to my community," Smith said, via the 49ers' official website. Now, in addition to playing to win games, I am playing to raise much needed money for a great organization that makes a huge difference in the lives of millions of young people.” Factoring in his NFL-leading 19.5 sacks, the tally is up to $99,430.50 ... and counting. The gesture certainly hasn't gone unnoticed. “We are thrilled to be Aldon Smith’s charity of choice and greatly appreciate his generosity,” said Rob Connolly, President of Boys & Gir...

Aldon Smith Donating To Boys & Girls Clubs For Each Regular Season Sack

San Francisco linebacker Aldon Smith is having a career year, and has a legitimate shot at breaking the all-time NFL single season sack record.  Aldon currently sits at 19.5 sack on the season with three games to play, and the record is 22.5 sacks set by Michael Strahan in 2001.  In a surprisingly wonderful gesture by Smith, he has announced via the 49ers website that he will donate...

Bill Belichick chimes in on the 49ers quarterback situation

Bill Belichick’s career changed when he decided to go with Tom Brady over Drew Bledsoe, so he can understands the process Jim Harbaugh is going through with his quarterback conundrum. As their teams prepare to meet Sunday night, Belichick knows exactly what he has in his signal caller; Harbaugh is still trying to figure out what’s the right type of offense for Kaepernick, it’s...

Randy Moss: Colin Kaepernick throws so hard he dislocated my finger

Colin Kaepernick had made a lot of plays with his legs for the San Francisco 49ers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he can’t throw. Not only has he completed more than 67% of his passes this season, but Kaepernick is also capable of putting some zip on the ball and sticking it into tight spots. Randy Moss said that is the reason he recently suffered the first dislocated finger...

Moss likes his experience with 49ers this season

For future Hall-of-Fame wide receiver Randy Moss, his return to the NFL after a year away has been largely a good experience despite the fact that he's not a primary target on a team that hasn't thrown the ball much. Through 13 games, Moss has 21 catches for 326 yards and a pair of scores. On Sunday, he'll return to Foxborough, Mass., to play against a coach, Bill Belichick...

49ers receiver Randy Moss praises Kaepernick and Belichick

Wide Receiver Randy Moss is a veteran’s veteran.  He is also a student of the game of football. I would dare to say that upon his retirement as a player, it would not be a shock to watch Moss rise through the coaching ranks to become an eventual offensive coordinator. Moss recently sat down  and discussed his feelings about the rise of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and...

Patriots offense has 49ers looking for answers

When the San Francisco 49ers travels to New England this weekend, linebacker Aldon Smith's pursuit of the NFL single-season sack record will take a backseat as the team is worried about slowing down Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Some are more worried than others. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio didn't hold back in his compliments of the Patriots offense. "They...

Preview: 49ers vs Patriots

It’s been two weeks since the San Francisco 49ers officially went with quarterback Colin Kaepernick as their full-time starter over Alex Smith. Since then, the team is 1-1 and Kaepernick has received mixed reviews. Despite more pure talent than Smith and a bigger arm, the offense hasn’t been as explosive as it initially was when he took over several weeks ago, and the hype has...

Vote: Would You Rather See Colin Kaepernick or Alex Smith Starting Against the Patriots on Sunday Night?

Quarterback controversies can often be a death sentence for a potential playoff team. Just take a quick glance at the current state of the Jets for a prime example. But what the 49ers have out in San Francisco is exactly what any contender dreams of. Coming into this season, Alex Smith was viewed as a quarterback finally on the rise. He led — and I use that term lightly, because...

Brady, like Kaepernick, once replaced injured QB

Tom Brady was in a similar position 11 years ago to the spot Colin Kaepernick is in now. Both were second-year quarterbacks replacing successful veterans. On Sunday night, Brady leads the New England Patriots against Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers in a matchup of division leaders. The Patriots (10-3) have clinched the AFC East title, while the 49ers (9-3-1) can lock up the...

Niners need offense to keep pace with Pats

Stoically stone-faced and tight-lipped as is his style, Colin Kaepernick showed little emotion and gave concise answers Wednesday regarding the 49ers’ impending showdown with the New England Patriots. Kaepernick will have a lot more to say with his play when he gets on the field Sunday, and how San Francisco’s starting QB and the offense he directs performs that night could determine...

The San Francisco 49ers Take on the New England Patriots This Sunday with Playoff Implications on the Line

This Sunday night the San Francisco 49ers will have to endure their greatest test of the season as they travel to take on the New England Patriots. With a win against the Patriots the 49ers will clinch the NFC west division and at least clinch a wildcard spot for the playoffs. What’s even more important with a victory, is the knowledge that they can afford to rest some of their...

Moss learned football 'A to Z' from Belichick

Randy Moss joined the New England Patriots five years ago thinking he knew a lot about football. Then, he began playing for Bill Belichick. Moss' mindset regarding his own football knowledge changed in a hurry. Only then did he learn the intricacies of his sport from ''A to Z,'' as the 49ers wide receiver now puts it.

Jim Harbaugh stumped by Patriots offense

Sunday Night Football will be an epic encounter between the New England Patriots number one ranked offense, and the San Francisco 49ers number two ranked defense. However, just because you have the best defense in the NFL, doesn't mean you have all the answers. When asked about how he can stop Tom Brady and his offense, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh admitted he didn't have...
