The Super Bowl is still almost a week away, but one member of the 49ers is already earning accolades. Niners head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed to Pro Football Talk on Monday that second-year outside linebacker Aldon Smith had been named the team’s most valuable player after a vote by San Francisco’s players and coaches. Though he was part of a star-studded Niners defensive unit that boasts six Pro Bowlers, few can argue the immense impact Smith had on his team. The 23-year-old ranked second in the NFL with 19.5 sacks this season — adding onto his impressive 14-sack rookie campaign — and also tallied 66 tackles, three forced fumbles and an interception. Smith’s statistics have declined of late — he hasn’t recorded a sack since Dec. 9 — but Harbaugh is adamant that the backer’s impact has not diminished. In fact, PFT reports that Smith was awarded the game ball after San Francisco’s NFC Championship win over Atlanta despite having only one tackle. That theme of contributions beyond th...

Randy Moss Back In New England Next Year?

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, tosses out a hypothetical idea that would involve Randy Moss returning to the New England Patriots next season. Reiss writes that “one could make the case that Moss’ vertical presence would be a better fit with the Patriots next season.“ Reiss made the case earlier for the Patriots revamping their receiving corp this offseason, so it’s...

Moss: 'I'm the greatest receiver' ever

Randy Moss felt empowered Tuesday by his own greatness. That, and with the teeming masses parked at his Super Bowl XLVII Media Day stage at the Superdome, which gave him a handy platform to proclaim this to the world. "Now that I'm older, I do think I'm the greatest receiver to ever do it," said Moss, 35. He added that he meant no disrespect for others who might...

NFL Rumors: Randy Moss proclaims himself as the best all-time receiver

San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss has had an interesting career. He’s likely headed to Canton once his career is finally finished, but he has never shunned controversy throughout his playing career. A colorful and flamboyant receiver, Moss has created a buzz on and off the field wherever he has played in his career. Tuesday, he created a new buzz, proclaiming himself as the greatest...

Randy Moss reportedly expects to play one more season

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com via Evan Silva, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Randy Moss is expected to play one more season. “I’m told that Moss expects to play at least one more season,” said Florio. 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has already said that he wants Moss to come back next season, but let’s be honest, Moss didn’t make much of an impact this...

Rice 'very surprised' by Moss' claim

Jerry Rice says he's "surprised" at Randy Moss' claim to be the greatest receiver ever, and that he himself has been "very productive." But Rice won't come out and say that he's the best. Moss turned some heads Tuesday when he called himself the best wide receiver in NFL history. Rice, however, was diplomatic -- sort of -- when people instantly...

NFL Rumors: Randy Moss to return to the New England Patriots?

San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss is believed to be wanting to play one more season in the NFL. He is scheduled to become a free agent after this season and his future with the Niners is in doubt. He was not the impact player that the Niners were hoping for this season, although he was not a distraction on or off the field for San Francisco this season. Could a reunion with the New...

Randy Moss says he’s the greatest of all time, mum on future with 49ers

During today’s Super Bowl media day,  San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Randy Moss called himself the greatest wide receiver of all time. “I do think I’m the greatest receiver ever to play this game,” said Moss. Moss was also asked if he wants to come back and play for the 49ers next season.  He answered by saying he’s not sure.   There was a report that Moss plans on...

Randy Moss Says He’s The Greatest WR of All Time; Do You Agree?

There was a time when Moss was the most feared wide receiver of all time. If Jerry Rice was more of a Jason Bourne type of assassin on the field, Randy Moss was Tony Montana. Where does he rank all time? I think the majority of people would have him Top 5 and everyone should at least have him in their Top 10. Moss though who is trying to get the elusive ring protection thinks he...

Moss back in his element in Super spotlight

Randy Moss took to the podium on Super Bowl media day – his 49ers hat tilted slightly to the left, his sleeves rolled up high to reveal a cross tattooed on one arm, a large ''R'' tattooed on the other. Not exactly humbled by his supporting role with the Niners, Moss let it rip in one of his rare moments this season as the center of attention, carrying himself very...

Randy Moss Must Have Forgotten About Jerry Rice, Thinks He's the Best Receiver Ever

Super Bowl media day started today and my man Randy Moss dropped a bomb nobody thought was coming.  He's been pretty silent this season with the 49ers, just going about his business, but the media got the best of him today.  Moss claimed that he thinks he is the best receiver ever to play in the NFL. "I don't live off numbers," Moss said, noting he has had...

Moss vs. Rice? Crabtree casts his vote

NEW ORLEANS -- Randy Moss is making Super Bowl Week news by proclaiming himself "the greatest receiver to ever do it.'' Jerry Rice is responding by saying, "Put my numbers against his numbers.'' An expert witness to settle the debate? How about a guy who plays for the same San Francisco 49ers team that Moss now plays for, the same 49ers team that Rice once...

Jerry Rice Says He’s Surprised Randy Moss Used The Word Greatest

Randy Moss sent subtle shock waves through the NFL when he claimed that he is the greatest receiver in NFL history.  Well the one that many believe is in fact the G.O.A.T., Jerry Rice, has responded to Moss’ claim.  “I’m very surprised Randy Moss used that in those words, that he’s the greatest,” Rice said on ESPN’s “NFL Live.” “You’d never hear me say I’m...

The Ray Lewis Story: Reversal of Smoke and Mirrors and Snake Oil

What is the best way to change your image? What is the best way to get the public to forget what a steaming turd you were? The best way, as Elizabeth Taylor once said, is success. In football, it's the same way. Example: Randy Moss, the self-proclaimed greatest receiver in NFL history. In his career, Mr. Moss has been a rookie, a rock star, a child, a record-breaker, a belligerent...

If You Have To Say It, That Says It All

Work The Rubes, Boys Two brief points about today's Super Bowl Media Day layups... 1) Ray Lewis denies PED use I was never really a Michael Jordan fan. I knew I was watching the best player of his generation and one of the best of all time, and I rooted for him when he played teams that I hated more than his Bulls... but in terms of rooting for him, there was always a meanness...
