While watching Colin Kaepernick shine for the 49ers on Monday Night Footbal you kind of got the feeling that Alex Smith’s career was flashing before his eyes. Following the game 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh was given the opportunity to affirm his support for the incumbent starter and he chose not to do so. During his post game press conference the coach was asked whether or not the QB could lose his starting job due to injury. In short; his response was that he had no rule on the matter and that the situation would be evaluated throughout the week. Smith, a former first round pick, was seen as a significant bust until he got it together last season. However, that may have changed again tonight. At the end of the first quarter sophomore quarterback Colin Kaepernick boasted an 8/9-126 line with a touchdown pass to Vernon Davis and completions to five different 49ers while Smith was sidelined with a concussion, and Kaepernick continued to impress throughout the evening...

Colin Kaepernick: San Francisco treat or Bay Area nightmare?

The San Francisco 49ers Monday Night matchup was pitted as a battle of NFL powerhouse defenses.  Both the Niners and their NFC North leading opponent, the Chicago Bears, were missing their starting quarterbacks.  It was a scenario that didn’t bode well for either Colin Kaepernick or Jason Campbell as they each would be facing top ranked NFL defenses.  To the surprise of many...

Vernon Davis: Colin Kaepernick took the handcuffs off me

We know of at least one San Francisco 49ers player who would appear to support a switch to Colin Kaepernick at quarterback. Tight end Vernon Davis felt like he experienced an explosion in his play on Monday night thanks to Kaepernick. “I felt like somebody took the handcuffs off me,” Davis said after the 49ers’ 32-7 win over the Chicago Bears. Davis had a season-high six catches...

Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers Obliterate Chicago Bears

Colin Kaepernick was brilliant in his first NFL start and Aldon Smith piled up 5.5 sacks as the San Francisco 49ers dismantled the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. The 49ers leap-frogged the Bears for the inside track on the NFC's No. 2 seed.

Bears lay egg in San Fran

San Francisco’s Colin Kaepernick threw two touchdown passes and the 49′ers defense suffocated the Chicago Bears offense in a 32-7 beatdown at Candlestick Park Monday night. The Bears (7-3) lost their second consecutive game and fell into a first-place tie with Green Bay in the NFC North, although the Packers own the tie-breaker currently by virtue of an early season [...]

Two QBs not better than one

I have yet to meet a head coach who wants to deal with a quarterback controversy. Coaches, as a rule, like certainty and stability. Quarterback controversies by definition lead to the opposite. They create distractions when you're seeking focus, and they can spark division when you're searching for togetherness. Colin Kaepernick was brilliant on Monday night in leading San...

Kaepernick leads 49ers to rout, sparks QB controversy

SAN FRANCISCO -- Monday night's game between the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears was billed as a battle of backup quarterbacks. After Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to a resounding 32-7 win over the Chicago Bears, the next battle could be over the identity of San Francisco's starting quarterback moving forward. From start to finish, Kaepernick, a second-year man...

MNF Preview – Chicago Bears vs. San Francisco 49ers

Late entry for tonight’s MNF matchup between the Chicago Bears (7-2) and the San Francisco 49ers (6-3-1).  Marred as the ‘Backup Bowl’, the headlines for tonight’s game are focused on concussed QB’s, rather than a defensive battle of epic proportions. Early this morning, Alex Smith was ruled out of action, due to the concussion he suffered last week against St. Louis...

Zeoli's Bears vs. 49ers Post Game Lament

I’m so excited I’m about to stroke out.  Or maybe it’s the sugar high from the cupcake I just ate.  Or both.  The Bears kick off. Tedd Ginn Jr. returns it to the 18.  The Bears defense is ready to murder Colin Kaepernick, filling in for the concussed Alex Smith.  The 49ers move into Bears territory on a cleverly designed pass play to Vernon Davis from a jumbo...

Niners blast Bears to turn showdown into rout

As Alex Smith stood on the sideline with a concussion, San Francisco's potential quarterback of the future went to work - and fast. Strong-armed fill-in Colin Kaepernick made all the right throws, looking every bit a capable NFL No. 1 as the 49ers whipped the Chicago Bears 32-7 in a Monday night NFC showdown at Candlestick Park that quickly turned into a lopsided rout for the home team.
