Alfonzo Dennard had just one more Colts player to beat on the way to his first career touchdown in the NFL — the quarterback. The only problem is that quarterback just so happened to be Andrew Luck. Luck tracked Dennard down during his 87-yard interception return, trying to cut off the speedy cornerback along the sideline before reaching the end zone. Luck’s athleticism and speed had Dennard worried. So worried, in fact, that the rookie corner was watching himself on the Jumbotron to keep an eye on Luck’s whereabouts. “Yeah I was,” Dennard said, laughing that he felt the need to look up at the video screen. “Because I know Andrew Luck, he’s a pretty fast quarterback, so I had to look at the Jumbotron to see if he was behind me.” Dennard, who intercepted his third pass of the season on Sunday, definitely didn’t want to miss out on the first touchdown of his young NFL life. But even more so, he didn’t want to face the ridicule of his teammates if a quarterback, even as athletic as Luck, was the one to take him down. “Yeah, a lot,” Dennard joked when asked if he would get grief from his teammates. “I went to the sideline and Devin [McCourty] was like, ‘If the quarterback would’ve caught you, you know we would’ve given you stuff about it.’” Fortunately, Dennard didn’t have to deal with the scorn of his teammates. Instead, he’s got a nice, new ball to bring home add to his steadily growing collection. Have a question for Luke Hughes? Send it to him via Twitter at @LukeFHughes or send it here.
