Bad news! New York Daily News' Ralph Vacchiano is reporting DT Jay Alford is out for the 2009 season. Here is Head Coach Tom Coughlin on Alford's season ending knee injury, “That’s a blow to our team,” Coughlin said. “That’s a guy that played well and had served evidence he was going to play well.”Indeed, Jay was having a fantastic camp. As Coughlin stated, it appeared Alford was going to have a terrific season. With Alford shelved for this year, what are the Giants going to do?Generally speaking, the Giants dress three defensive tackles on game day. Right now, Barry Cofield, Fred Robbins, and newly acquired Rocky Bernard would be part of the of the three man tackle rotation. Cofield and Robbins are both coming off of knee injuries. Bernard, prior to the start of camp, injured his hamstring. Thankfully, he has made a recovery and will be ready to play on opening day. On the other hand, DT/DE Chris Canty's hamstring injury is much more severe. Canty has a torn hamstring. ...
