In a somewhat surprising move just four days after being released from the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Andy Reid has decided to sign on to become the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. This move is a bit of a head turner considering the possibility of signing with the Chicago Bears, who are already all but a playoff team, with a Pro Bowl quarterback, wide receiver and talent across the board. Not to mention one of the most ferocious defenses in the league. Then there were the Arizona Cardinals sitting with one of the best wide receivers in the league in addition to former Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb, who was drafted by Andy Reid in 2007.Early speculations were that Arizona was the front-runner to land Reid.Alas, Reid’s new home lies in Kansas City. The coach will be taking over a team that won just two games last season and is, to say the least, rebuilding. Their “star” quarterback, Matt Cassel, is on the books to make $7.5 million next year, and is unlikely to be brought back, along with backup quarterback Brady Quinn.Could Reid possibly look to bring in either Kolb or Mike Vick, who is sure to be released from Philadelphia following this past season’s debacle? In addition, Kansas City’s best wide receiver, Pro Bowler Dwayne Bowe, is now a free agent and unlikely to return next year. This leaves the already thin receiving corps pretty skeletal, particularly with no answer at quarterback.Kansas City does have a fairly solid offensive line and an outstanding running back in Jamaal Charles. Reid is believed to bring offensive line coach Juan Castillo over from the Eagles, much to the delight of many Philadelphia fans. There is a new era in the Andy Reid legacy. Having been on the precipice multiple times and falling just short of that elusive Super Bowl victory in 14 seasons in Philadelphia; Reid now hopes he can accomplish that feat in the AFC.First things first, Reid will have to start from the ground up and rebuild not only this team, but the entire Kansas City Chiefs organization to his mold. Much like he did in Philadelphia.
