That target on the back of Mark Sanchez is growing by the day.

An anonymous Jets player told CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman that "80-90 percent" of the team feels Sanchez should be benched.

"Everyone on the team likes Mark personally but there's a general feeling among some of the players that maybe it's time to give someone else a chance," the unnamed player said.

This comes a day after Sanchez threw three interceptions in a practice that coach Rex Ryan deemed "unacceptable" and "disappointing." That's not to say rookie Geno Smith fared any better -- one interception and a handful of other miscues -- but it's to be expected from a first-year player who's adjusting to facing an NFL defense.

Sanchez is entering his fifth season and seems to have completely regressed. You usually don't take much out of a non-contact OTA session, but Sanchez, who's committed 52 turnovers over the past two seasons, no longer has the benefit of the doubt.

Freeman believes it's "only fair" for the Jets to cut bait with Sanchez so he can find a "fresh start." But that is highly unlikely to happen given his $8 million salary and the abrupt loss of David Garrard. For as poor as his play has been -- and continues to be -- Sanchez is Gang Green's lone insurance policy while Smith gets his legs under him.
